Sheela Bringi, originally from Colorado, is an instrumentalist and vocalist based in Los Angeles. Sheela plays the North Indian classical bansuri flute and studies under the guidance of master flautist G.S. Sachdev. Sheela has also studied jazz piano, South Indian classical voice & flute, and plays the harp & harmonium. Since moving to California in 2002, Sheela has studied and worked with artists from a variety of backgrounds including Fred Frith, Cecil Taylor, Aashish Khan and Swapan Chaudhuri. She is currently in the studio working on her 2nd album with PremaSoul, her collaboration with Jazz musician Clinton Patterson, and her first solo album.
Sheela holds a degree from Mills College and is pursuing a M.F.A. in North Indian music at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).
