Stygian Apothegm, in its purest form, is about making heavy ass metal. Why metal? No one makes money in metal. Well we play metal because we love music and love the challenge of mastering our instruments. The passion for music is what drives us.The essence of Stygian Apothegm began back in 2005. Mike was looking to start a band that was so dark and brutal that the very sounds of the blasting beats of the drums and the screeching wails of the guitar would ultimately conquer you as a being and convert you over to the dark side of metal. But first thing's first, Mike needed a band...Mike jammed around with a few people here and there which led to know where, but one magical day Ryan (Arsis, The Knife Trade) mentioned to Mike that Nate (ex-The Knife Trade) was looking to jam with some people. So Mike and Nate jammed out and it was glorious metal being born into the world. Now we needed another guitar and bass. Our second guitarist came into existance by being spawned from a raging inferno of hellfire and brimstone. Actually, one random day, Sergio called Mike and wanted to jam. No words need to be said, the most metal of all metalness has joined our band, Stygian Apothegm. The road is being paved in blood to lead the way to world domination.Bass players are fucking hard to find. So for a while, we just played as a trio of scorching thrash metal. We played a few shows at the end of the year, still with no bass player. But luck has a way of finding us and this brutal crazy ass bass player named Bam got in touch with us. The ritualistic creation of metal was born into a full fledging dominating epic force. Step 1 has been completed. Now that Stygian Apothegm had the foundation down, it was time to practice, practice, and... practice. Once we had our set ready, it was time to play shows and make ourselves known. We've come a long way and keeping it strong. We are here to stay and will never give up on metal. In 2007, we recorded a demo called "Behold Insanity" which was actually a song title before it became a demo title. After that, we've been hard at work creating new epic songs for another forthcoming demo which is currently not named. Recording will begin sometime this year. Until then, you will have to catch our new stuff live.In mid 2008 Bam left the band to pursue other interests, and band friend and multi-intrumentalist Jimmy Parr took up the challenge to provide the brutal low end.Jimmy jammed with us for a few months, did a couple shows. Then he decided to leave the band in November 2008 to pursue other interests. We wish him the best of luck!So now we are once again on the lookout for a bass player that can handle the epicness. This is who we are. This is what we come to do. We strive to conquer, and conquer we shall.
