About Me
This story started, just the way it should, with the songs. Sitting in his studio in the south of Sweden, surrounded by posters of Zakk Wylde, Yngwie Malmsteen and Slash (and a tattoo of the latter on his left arm) tunesmith and guitar virtuoso Ola af Trampe instinctively knew that ubercool front woman extraordinaire Linea Helge would be the right vehicle for his songs. There was only one problem; Linea lived in Hollywood Hills in sunny California. But, when visiting the hometown they both shared, she got to hear what Ola was creating and from that moment on there was no turning back. Linea moved back to Sweden and My Curse was born. No auditions for the band’s final line up were necessary. In longtime friend and multiinstrumentalist Jakob Lindahl the drum spot was filled, and after some persuasion, Ola’s friend and some time partner in crime Alo Karlsson borrowed a four string to complete the picture. Ola and Linea immediately did a lot of writing, with Linea processing her turbulent past in her lyrics, gigs were booked and made, and the word was starting to spread.Catching the attention from top notch Swedish producer Chris Laney (Europe, Crash Diet, Zan Clan) the band started to record their debut album at Polar Studios, former home of ABBA, Led Zeppelin and Scorpions et al, in Stockholm late 2006. Negotiations with various labels are underway and the album is scheduled for release sometime during 2007. And it surely will be something else.Because My Curse just don’t carry rock history with them, they are truly heading for a bright future. The raucous, organic sound, combined with strong melodies and in-your-face-choruses, the attitude and edge of Guns’n Roses and Backyard Babies, and pop panace a la Pink and Lambretta gives the band a, personal, not to say a unique, touch. There’s Trampe’s intricate guitar work, there’s Lineas expressive vocals and angst ridden lyrics and there’s the tight-as-fuck rhythm section of Lindahl and Karlsson and, above all, there’s the exquisite layer-on-layer songwriting that make them stand out in the plethora of today’s rock bands. It’s fresh, it’s smart, it’s cool. But, as Ola puts it; “at the end of the day, it’s only rock’n’rollâ€. Yeah, and we like it.
