About Me

In a world obsessed with 15 minutes of fame, it’s a rare occasion to find those who press toward a long lasting legacy. California has managed to produce such a rare breed of legacy legends in the form of the TCB crew(The Capital’s Best/The Chosen Brothas). The TCB crew is one of the oldest HipHop Art Dynasty in the west coast, reigning for over 25 years. The Order was formerly initiated in 1985 by a group of inner city teenagers bent on spray painting their cosmic imaginations on the Urban Canvas we call walls. TCB recruited the gifted youth of Northern and Southern California creating the hybrid Style of Street Calligraphy that has sustained their legendary prowess. Although membership has shifted and changed, the classic core members of the group remain. The pillars of the crew are Toons, Refa1, MadHatter and Sir Asia. Toons brought a phenomenal style and a detailing technique from his home town of LA, Refa1 and Asia brought the Bay Area’s World Class Wild Style lettering, and MadHatter(a Sacramento Native) imposed his superior abilities in the form of B-Boy Iconography. Today the core membership continues to evolve a champion Style etching themselves deeper into the lettering world of Style Supremacy. One common thread that holds the crew together is the philosophy of the Universal ZULU Nation organized by Afrika Bambaataa in 1973. The ZULU Nation promoted the 5th element of HipHop known as “Knowledge of Self”. This concept helps to give rise to the crew’s socio- political content, inspiring youth and challenging authority. TCB has taken this message around the globe painting intricate murals on Subways, Freight Trains, Freeways, Tunnels, Walls and Galleries. Although the crew is now spread out residing all over the nation they still represent the culture of writing (Spray Can Art) in their respective areas as Masters of the genre. All of the TCB crew members now work professionally as successful artists in the areas of Mural Painting, Graphic Design, Tattooing, Illustration, Jewelry making, Carpentry and Education. What must be mentioned in addition to the high caliber of Street Styled Calligraphy is their tradition for giving back to the youth. TCB has always had a youth apprenticeship program connected to its Legacy. “Each One Teach One” is the motto adopted by forward thinking HipHoppers to promote a self sustaining future for the Culture. Many writers (spray can artist) and crews have spawned from the ranks of the TCB Dynasty to achieve International acclaim for their lettering styles and illuminating art works. The TCB crew propelled the future of writing in Sacramento California and gave it a rich, sound, and creative foundation. This is a part of HipHop history to be celebrated and modeled for decades to come. The art is a rich mix of cultural expression, graphic design and intricate street calligraphy. These Artist represent the Mastery of the genre.Check for their Products on http://www.myspace.com/royalcrownzFine Art of Graffiti
