Live life by the Golden Rule

About Me

MySpace Layouts at KawaiiSpace .
This is €œMy philosophy on life€?MY PREMISE; There is no €œgrand plan€?. Life has no greater meaning or purpose. What you see is what you get.MY CONCLUSION; This premise, I have found, really bothers people. Almost no one I know can accept it. Even people who have rejected organized religion cling to some form of greater meaning (i.e. €“ reincarnation). Others, usually uncommonly bright, intellectual, thinking individuals, despair at the meaningless of it all.I conclude something entirely different. If there is no greater meaning or purpose to life, then life itself is the whole meaning! Given a life, which by definition of discussing this we are, then the only rational thing to do is to live it to the fullest in a way that maximizes your happiness (however, our behavior must be governed by the GOLDEN RULE since it is also rational that everyone else has, or should have, the same goal). If you despair at the lack of greater meaning then you are actually acknowledging the position of others who argue for the necessity of such a meaning. It also seems to me that the €œno greater meaning€? premise is a source of another comfort. That is: it doesn€™t make sense to let the annoyances, irrationalities, etc., of people and life get you down. As difficult as it may be to always implement this approach, I have always felt this way. In other words, these things would be important and worth getting upset about only if there were some greater meaning or purpose. Otherwise, they are just annoying and not worth getting emotional or depressed about. My last point is where I believe most people mis-read me because it is highly unusual behavior on my part. It concerns the separation of the intellect and the emotion. I feel very strongly about many political and social issues, and I will argue my position passionately and vehemently. I get frustrated at those with irrational positions. What isn€™t clear to most people is that all this passion, vehemence, and frustration is only on an intellectual level. I don€™t let it upset my emotional life, because, in the end what does it all matter; I can€™t change the way things are anyhow, and I can live my life basically the way I want and still be happy regardless. One of the things this has meant to me is that I believe in €œbending with the breeze€?. Empirically, I have seen that personal flexibility leads to happiness. Some may see this as compromising your beliefs, but it is not. Beliefs are intellectual and therefore they are not compromiseable €“ albeit changeable if you are open minded. It would be foolish to martyr yourself for your belief(s) €“ unless there was some greater meaning to life.My overall conclusion is that, there is very little in life to get strategically upset about. We are all in control of our lives and therefore our own happiness. It only makes sense to use this control to be happy.Extended Network Banner made with MyBannerMaker.com!
