The solo artist that is known to her fans as Wakeelah, is no stranger to performing and commanding the stage. Her presence is compelling, her persona is notable and her voice is exquisite. She is a native of Charleston, SC and grew up in a musically inclined family of seven. Growing up in a large family had both its advantages as well as disadvantages. Similar to many artists, Wakeelah captures her life experiences through her music. Wakeelah’s fans are able to vicariously live through the heartache, pain, love, and life lessons of this budding star. She is their voice to speak, their shoulder to lean on, and their example to succeed and grow. Like most artists Wakeela had her share of ups and downs, however she managed to turn every experience into a beautiful song of expression. She always knew that she had a song in her heart worth singing and words of hope worth listening to. There are many artists that have pathed the way, and whom have given her the strength that she offers to her fans. Patti Labelle and Whitney Houston are two of her influences in her musical career, along with countless other women of soul. Wakeelah’s talents are not limited to being a vocalist she is also a lyricist. This artist prefers writing her own lyrics because she always says, “The best one to express my emotions is me. And I am the only one that can convey my restoration.” She has been influenced by writers such as Bryan Mcknight, Diane Warren, and Kenneth “Baby Face” Edmonds. Wakeelah’s possibilities are limitless when it comes to her vocal capacity. She performs R&B, Gospel, Pop, Jazz and Soul. Wakeela’s genuine love for music and her fans shines through every performance and CD played. Wakeela has been a well kept secret for far too long. Few have dared to bring back the soulful music of the 70’s and 80’s. Music that is truly food for the soul, and Wakeela has done just that. Recently Wakeelah showed her vocal ability on the Steve Harvey Morning Show and won the Tuesday morning talent segment. On air, Mr Harvey immediately requested her talent as an opening act for his future shows. The skies the limit for this new star, Wakeelah is destined to go as far as her talent will take her, which simply means that she will be boundless!
