Most people who just met me always want to know how I broke into radio and how they can do it too. I tell them this: luck. By luck, I mean preparation+opportunity=luck. I was in college at Fresno State in 2003 and heard a commercial on B95 asking for interns. Before that, I was an intern at a television station before I got my break as an intern at B95. I was a Criminology/Mass Communication major at Fresno State. I needed credits for an internship, so I applied! I got hired and was assigned to work with the Program Director, Pattie Moreno. From there I decided to work harder than any other intern. That means I paid my dues by doing everything from stupid errands, calling record reps, being at every event, to getting shot with paintball guns, covered in feathers and getting mace'd. Music is my passion, so even though it was tiring a lot of the times, but it was worth it!!
One of the best ways to break into the music industry is to intern at a company that is going in the direction you want to go. Radio is a good way to test the waters and tune your skills.
