My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Positive, energetic people who love to experience new things, read books, watch movies, and listen to music. These are a few of my passions, and I'm always looking and listening for new films to see, new music to collect and hear, and new ideas to ponder. Oh, and I'd like to meet Scarlett Johansson.

Music:

I have an appreciation for all types of music. The music I'm most endeared to is proliferated with guitar, electric or accoustic, but I also enjoy classical, jazz, and early blues. Favorite bands include Phish, Pink Floyd, RadioHead, Jethro Tull, R.E.M., ColdPlay, Depeche Mode, and The Dave Matthews Band. Music I've been getting into lately includes Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, Porcupine Tree, moe., The Decemberists, The Arcade Fire, Gnarls Barkley, Hot Chip, Muse, Umphrey's McGee, Jack Johnson, Amy Winehouse, and the list could go on and on.

Movies:

Like music, I appreciate film based on my mood or frame of mind. Anything by Steven Spielberg is a good bet, especially Empire of the Sun. I'm a big fan of David Lynch (Wild at Heart!), David Fincher, Francis Ford Coppola, Quentin Tarrintino, Woody Allen, James L. Brooks, etc. Favorite films range from V for Vendetta to Terms of Endearment; from Waiting for Guffman to Tombstone; from A Nightmare On Elm Street to Amelie. Grind House was brilliant! Children of Men was the best film of 2006.

Television:

Lost, House, and anything interesting on the Discovery, Science, or History channels. Bravo has some addictive reality/documentary shows of which my wife and I can't get enough.

Books:

Lord of the Flies is my all time favorite book. Stephen King is one of my favorite authors because of his detail in illustrating the human psyche. Most of his books aren't so much horror or ghost stories as they are essays on the power of the human mind to frighten and fascinate the hell out of itself (The Panic Rat!). I enjoy Michael Chabon, Erik Larson, and non-fiction.

Heroes:

My father and mother for making it through thirty-nine years of marriage. My wife for making it through five years of marriage with me. Steve Jobs for making something out of nothing with innovative thought, imagination, and a drive that people have no choice but to worship or despise. Gary Oldman for being one of the most gifted character actors in the world.
