The Republic of Coño
Profile and Philosophy
The concept is simple. Form a new Republic. A new and refreshing lifestyle clothing brand. We set the precedent in 1518. This year we are launching our first collection; today we are renewing the vows. Introducing the Republic of Coño Revolution Series. The distilled essence of historical richness and style. The collections we design have the power to speak to others about how we feel, what we think, and what we would like others to think about. Our inspiration comes from our rich history and a culture full of life, color, and music.
The Republic of Coño was conceived with the visionary goal of becoming the global destination place to be fully engaged in the moment experiencing the best in sights, sounds, and feelings. Coño is a community of communities, expanding daily, aggregating individuals and groups, languages and cultures, interests and ideas.
From jetsetters to trendsetters who want to experience the best will migrate to the destination point of the Republic of Coño.
Our strength in the marketplace will come from our ability to transform ourselves. We have the courage to create ideas and services that don’t exist and flip around products that already exists. Excellence is what drives our relentless commitment to do bigger and better. We believe in the collective mind and search for all opinions and ideas. At Coño, we recognize that all of us are part of a global community. To experience the Republic of Coño is to be fully engaged in the moment. We belong to every single very important person (VIP’s) that enter our doors and as huge as the countless interactions between the people and cultures we connect.
Once you embrace the lifestyle, it’s just you, life, love, music and nothing else. It’s everything you’d expect from the Republic of Cono because it’s a new revolution.
Inspiration
¡Coño! A staple exclamation in Caribbean American culture; and now, the brand name of a clothing line, Republic of Coño.
Republic of Coño’s mission is simple-bring the heart and soul of Latin style to the forefront for men and women.
Republic of Coño is the brainchild of former Marine and entrepreneur Greg Francis Jr., Jose Behar, and Dominican major league pitcher Odalis Perez.
Greg Francis Jr. and Jose Behar met in 2003 and quickly became not only business partners, but also cultural brothers with the same ideals, goals and vision. Greg and Jose share many cultural nuances and experiences given that Greg is Dominican and Jose is Cuban. People of other nationalities enjoyed their lingo and banter. The word “coño†is so ingrained in Caribbean culture that Greg and Jose often questioned the significance of the word to their culture and identity.
Being true entrepreneurs, Greg and Jose found inspiration on a pizza run. Jose turned to Greg and said, “You know brother, we use the word coño so much, we might as well wear it.†The idea of the line started off as t-shirts and ball caps with the word “coño†screen printed on them, but quickly became something bigger as Greg began researching how and who was using this word and why they identified with it.
What Greg found was so much more than what they envisioned. The variety of uses of the word, significance and shades of meaning indicated that the word was as diverse as the people who used it.
Greg and Jose quickly formed a team of designers, graphic artists, and PR reps. They decided to brand the word “coño†and trademark the name to create a fashion line that would reflect the rich diversity of the word and the people who used it-The Republic of Coño.
What Exactly Does Coño Mean?
Ask ten different people, and you’ll receive ten different answers. “To me, coño is an expression of who, what, when and where you are. Coño is a lifestyle I was born and raised in. Republic of Coño is a cultural movement we can all relate to and want to become a part of. It’s a fictional place, located in your mind, heart and soul that breathes fire, music, culture and lifestyle with Latin flare; a place where diversity and desire merge into one single fashionable heartbeat. It’s paradise for the soul.â€
