At a time where both Hip-Hop and the music industry are at crossroads, Carlito feels it is his destiny to make his mark in Hip-Hop culture as a true lyricist. His street poetry and entrepreneurial aspirations are products of his upbringing and the unpaved road ahead of him. Inspired by such Hip-Hop legends as: KRS-1, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Biz Markie, Big Pun, Big L, LL Cool Jay, Chubb Rock and Kool G. Rap; Carlito has grown and evolved around Hip-Hop. From break dancing, to lyrical jam sessions at the park, talent shows, and even graffiti, Carlito was immersed in the history of Hip-Hop. This Connecticut-born New Yorker looks back at his roots to enable himself to unlock the potential he finds in the Constitution state. His lyrics posses an effortless charisma that paint pictures of his trials and tribulations, knowledge, drugs, glory, gang affiliation, and his misconceptions of love. Many of his peers have considered him the Puerto Rican version of Nas. Carlito is determined to obtain the long overdue recognition for Connecticut and its talent. The pivotal moment for Carlito’s gift, is when he relocated from the Bronx to Stamford, Connecticut back in the early 90's. Possessing that N.Y. State of Mind, he began to explore “The City That Works" with the work that he knew best! Selling drugs on the streets of Stamford inevitably landed him in and out of prison for 8 years in total. Never losing touch of his self expression while a ward of the state, Carlito re-evaluated his life and began to recap into his plans of turning his talent into an empire. Carlito believes that "Hustling is about living the life you love and loving the life you live, not violence, tortured glamour, and cheap thrills." Never regretting his past, he uses it as a tool to structure his prophetic poetry.Since his youth, Carlito has always had the gift of self expression. Winning many awards at school talent shows as the best rapper. Carlito began writing music back in 1986 at the age of 10. Being brought-up in the Bronx, around the time when gang violence, drugs, Hip-Hop, graffiti, and prostitution were thriving in New York, Carlito managed at a young age to take what he witnessed around him and mold them into creative lyrical masterpieces. It wasn’t until 2006 when Carlito traveled out west to Washington where he wrote and recorded his first song, “Who Could You Trustâ€. His second single “I Stood Stillâ€, was written in 1993 but was recorded in 2006 while he was in Washington. Currently CEO of Faculty Records & Films, Carlito is constantly engaged in writing new material for himself and other up and coming artists. He is also involved with several projects which currently include the promoting of his mix tape titled “The Last of The Mo’Ricans’ - 730 Mixâ€. His ability to network has been the key to his success. Carlito has proved to have groomed himself from a felon to a true entrepreneur.
