About Me

Jennifer Barnes has developed a reputation as an exceptional musician through her work as a live and studio vocalist, arranger and educator. Referring to her debut CD recording, You Taught My Heart (available at CDBaby.com, iTunes and through her website: www.jenniferbarnesmusic.com), legendary jazz bassist Rufus Reid says, Jennifer integrates rich vocal quality, clarity of pitch and emotion with an additional pivotal skill that sets her apart from other great singers; she sings improvisations that are melodically and rhythmically interesting from the point of view of a jazz instrumentalist. She has appeared in or sung for radio and television advertising (Chilis Restaurant, Epson, the Chicago Cubs) as well as television shows and films (Close To Home [CBS], Chicken Little, Ice Age 2, Superman Returns, Nacho Libre), and she has recorded for such musical legends as Marilyn & Alan Bergman, Cy Coleman and Barry Manilow. Jennifer's live performances include background vocals for Bono (2002 Grammy Awards Show), being the featured vocalist with Doc Severinsen, and performing with her own quartet at the 28th Annual IAJE International Conference in New York City (January 2001).Jennifer has taught jazz vocal improvisation on the faculty of the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Camps for seven years. In addition, she directed downBeat [magazine] award-winning Vocal Jazz Ensembles for over ten years, including Western Michigan University, the University of Miami (FL), Chicago College of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and the University of Southern California. made with the Cosmoedit Myspace editor
