About Me

PREPABIn 1997, Ryan Doughty and Joshua Taylor fell knee deep into nyc's dance community. Inspired by the legendary DJ Junior Vasquez, Ryan and Josh bought their first set of turntables, and began collecting vinyl. Purchasing all styles from house to tribal to trance, the duo nearly went broke. Record shopping became a way of life. 6 months later they were asked to play a special event at SUNY Purchase for the GLBT community. Their first Party was a hit, with the fire marshall threatening to shut it down, due to over occupancy. Over 500 hundred attended, making it the most successful event on campus EVER! A week later, Josh and Ryan received a call from Ralph Lauren's assistant, asking them to dj a private party. The response was overwhelming for the rookie djs, and the party was off the hook. The next week the duo took up their first residency at the Lemon Lounge on Park avenue. Every weekend the duo played for a crowded club of Manhattan's social elite. Due to a running Joke: Is it Josh and Ryan? or Ryan and Josh? The Djs needed a combined identity. Formally a nickname of Josh, the duo officially became Prephab. They started organizing private afterhour parties in various lofts around the city. Prephab spun parties for Prada, Diesel, Dolce and Gabbana, Blackbook magazine, and Rhythm magazine. The duo has also thrown parties at Love, Hush, Avalon, Club 205, Powder, Solas , the Frying Pan, and the Lemon. In 1998, Prephab began work on their first remix. "Acid in the stream" was a reworked version of "Islands in the stream" sampled with "this is acid" - a house classic. While most DJ's were calling the cover remix "too nelly". Prephab started hearing it played as a late night classic anthem. Superstar DJ Jackie Chrystie: "This track is a perfect example of a mash-up! You Guys invented the mash-up! Prephab did mash-ups before anyone else.". Legendary Saint DJ Marc Cicero was said to end his sets with "acid in the stream" every week at the Monster. Prephab Continued to become a New York staple, Playing for gay, straight, house, rock, punk, and fashion. Their eclectic flair combines many styles and genres of music. Prephab seamlessly brings in different styles, while using a consistent structure. The duo was schooled by some of the most legendary DJ's ever. " Junior Vasquez's prolific career has deeply influenced our lives!, Junior is the glass ceiling! always raising the bar. No other Dj has even made an effort to surpass his legendary parties" Prephab learned the ancient style of beatmixing as turntablists. This may sound funny to some, but when you live in the day and age of ipods and cd mixers, you understand that this live hands-on approach to mixing may be a lost art form. Prephab continues to transform dancefloors into works of art. Their production style has much to do with multimedia. Their style creates a flawless, seamless show of performance, lighting, and sound. " We want everyone to party" says Ryan Doughty. "The Legendary nights in manhattan consisted of muscle-heads, drag queens, twinkies, chelsea boys, models, runway queens, banji boys, trannies, fashionistas, and trade. Like I said, Everyone partied together, there was always something going on, and there was always something to talk about. Today...Parties have become too labeled- too generic. WE ALL NEED TO COME TOGETHER ONCE AGAIN, AND PARTY AS ONE!"
