About Me

CBM formed in London in 1967, although all of the original line up were in fact American, they felt it would add to their image to say they formed in London, so in October of that year, each of them packed their bags and headed to Swinging London. Once there, they formally declared themselves The Captain Billy Mac Project, however by time the band headlined Woodstock two years later, Project would be dropped from the name. Their first album, Lieutenant Radishs Overly Social Hearts Quartet, was a huge hit in England, and even gathered a fan base in America, mainly with the overwhelming success of the hit single, I Am the Sea Lion. By time CBM headlined Woodstock in 1969, they had already released 23 albums, all of which went multi-platinum in a matter of hours after their release. Shortly after Woodstock, the release of CBMs 24th studio album only known as The Red Album due to the all red album cover, as well as red print, and a red record, showcased the bands more experimental side, including the clichéd influence of Eastern music. In 1973, the band released the ever popular rock opera, Becker which included the hit single Escalator to Limbo, which would later be charged with having secret satanic messages in it if played in reverse. Becker also included the hit, You Better Not Bet which exhibited the bands views on gambling at the time. 1973 also saw the release of one of the best selling albums of the 70s, The Dark Side of the Spoon, which supposedly synched up with the popular 1966 movie, Batman if started at the right time. 6 years and 12 albums later, CBM released one of its most critically acclaimed albums of all time, The Gate. The Gate would later be released as a full length movie in 1984. The 80s brought about an increase in synthesizers and big hair, neither which appealed to CBM, however, as dark as the 80s were, they also saw the release of 17 of CBMs finest albums, such as 1988s theme album Appetite for Instruction. This album provided CBM with many concert staples such as Welcome to the Classroom and Sweet Chalk Board O Mine. If at this point your still reading im sure you can figure out this is all totally fake, but hey you got this far you may as well read on right? The 90s saw the release of a total of 12 MTV Unplugged Albums by CBM, in which they played every one of their hits throughout their career in unplugged form, thus necessitating 12 unplugged concerts. Contrary to popular belief, in 2006, CBM was the musical guest for the Super Bowl Halftime Show, not that other band. During the final song of their performance, Shut Me Down (off of 1981s Tattoo That Guy), guest vocalist William Shatner underwent a wardrobe malfunction and cut the song short. Despite all of the challenges that CBM has faced through out their career, they continue to record new material, and currently hold the world record for most platinum albums released.
