Mini Whore CodeBefore any European settlers came, Texas was settled by Native Americans such as the Apache, Atakapan, Bidai, Comanche, Cherokee , and the Wichita. Since then Texas has been in 6 different countries. Them being Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, Confederacy, and the United States. Texas has been shaped with different cultures. Spain had main control from 1690 to 1821. Spain and France were switching control over Texas. When the U.S. annexed the Louisiana Purchase, American settlers began moving westward. Where the border between Texas and the U.S. was undecided. Mexican rule began in 1821 when Mexico won it's independence from Spain, until 1835. Texas also revolted and won it's independence in 1836 forming the Republic of Texas. For approximately 7 years Texas stayed as the Republic of Texas until being annexed by the U.S. This having been happened Mexico declared war on the U.S. saying it did not recognized the Independence of Texas. What later formed to patrol Texas was the Texas Rangers. When the States' Rights problem began and southern states began seceding from the Union Texas soon followed. Sam Houston was governor at the time but was soon kicked out for not wanting to secede from the Union. Texas soon joined the Conferate States. Texas seceded on February 1, 1861. Texas regiments had fought in every major civil war battle. In fact the last battle of the civil war was fought Texas, the battle of which is known as the Battle of Palmito Ranch. Throughout the civil war Texas was a major help to the Confederacy. That having been happened slavery was abolished along as in the rest of the Confederate States. After the war depression soon hit and all was lost in Reconstruction. Even to this day some things never recovered from the hardships of Texas.
