J Pope is a unique songstress emcee skilled in the art of blending hip-hop elements with soul sounds to reflect her convictions about life, love and current social issues expressed through thought provoking lyrics and harmonies. Her art has been recognized in various publications including Baltimore Magazine where she was described as an artist that:“doesn’t shy away from political, social, and religious issues, she frames them with a positive vibe that makes [her work] incredibly appealing.”Her career as a solo artist began after working with the band Phatback, an eclectic soul/funk band that performed throughout the east coast, releasing several albums, and establishing a significant fan base. Her first solo project, “Hierarchy of Needs” was released in 2007 and was heralded by the Baltimore Sun as:“ a retraction into the era of soul music that seems to be glazing the styles of countless loyal students of music,”  “J” has a BS degree from Towson University, with a major in Sociology and Mass Communication “Print Journalism” and is currently a social worker that advocates for HIV positive ex-offenders by connecting them to health and community services. Her work and her educational background are a direct testimony to her commitment to social change. J’s current project is "The Reconstruction".   “The Reconstruction” heralds J.
