Willie Jones, better known on the streets and in the entertainment industry as “Dubbs,†grew up in Washington Heights, a community of NYC, which lies between Harlem and the Bronx. In 1996 Dubbs entered the music industry partnering with Priority Records A&R Rep. Casual Tee, in Relentless Entertainment.
Shortly after, Relentless Entertainment got its first record deal. Relentless Entertainment’s artist “Short Khop†signed with Ice Cube’s Independent Label Heavy Weight Records. Aiming for more success in 1997, Dubbs signed “Youngstown,†a boy band from Ohio. “Youngstown†signed with Hollywood Records, and the group earned a gold record for writing the theme song for the movie Inspector Gadget.
Business changes occurred, leaving Dubbs and Casual Tee to form New Time Entertainment. Under this new umbrella, Dubbs continued to scout new talent, which he found when he discovered Schaffer Smith, a talented performer known today in the music world as Neyo. Dubbs signed Schaffer to New Time where he was developed as a writer and performer. In addition, Dubbs signed Big D. Evans, the genius producer behind Tupacs first three albums.
Determined to develop a strong team, New Time signed a 2nd producer by the name of Poli Paul. Poli Paul has produced songs for Black Eyed Peas, Christina Malian, Omarion, Twista, Teedra Moses, Bravehearts, Trick Daddy, Nivea, Backstreet Boys, Chingy, Eminem and Nivea to name a few. Together, they got Neyo his first recording deal with Columbia records, which fell apart because of a confrontation between head label executives. More business changes erupted, causing Dubbs and Poli Paul to form Bridge Kid Entertainment.
Shortly thereafter, Dubbs signed Teedra Moses, who quickly inked a deal with TVT records, and is currently working on her sophomore LP. Dubbs is and will continue to maneuver in this music industry. For Dubbs, this is only the beginning, growing up in the streets of NYC, owning/operating several different type businesses and then going on to attend Hocking College for Business Management has given him thee ability to develop a powerhouse entertainment squad that will continue to influence today’s popular music culture.
