About Me

You can hear some roughs of current songs on my website .

I'm a singer-songwriter who works with guitars and other musicians. In the 90's I played lead guitar in The Horse Thieves, double bass in The Rain Garden, still occasionally sing and play in the Storm Thieves and now with Loscoe State Opera . After a long break I've just started more solo stuff again in acoustic clubs like the Musician in Leicester and the Queen's Head in Belper.

My genetic inheritances Meri and Jessica Grace do rather good music too (no bias there, then. Yes, I'm about the same age as Kim Gordon ).

'Can't push the river' was done late 2006 Sirkus Studios , with Anna Brookes (Loscoe State Opera) on violin - thanks to Robin, John and Steve! More soon, but until then the other tracks are songs recorded with the Storm Thieves ('Tell me once more' from CD Up to the Sun ) and Loscoe State Opera, from All begins again on A New Day Records .

I'm also an artist who works with technology.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: http://www.daveeveritt.org/songs/
Band Members: Just me. And other people from time to time.
Influences:

In time order: original Fairport Convention (first with Judy Dyble , then Sandy Denny ); and various songwriter-acoustic-folk-type people, mainly David Ackles , Nick Jones , Alain Stivell (source of Four Tet samples), the historic and e(x)clectic Kaleidoscope (you can get all their recordings on Pulsating Dream ..); The Buzzcocks , Joy Division ; the Pixies ; Sonic Youth (nope, I don't sound like any of them although I did once do an acoustic version of 'Sister' ( Kim Gordon / Thurston Moore - the rock couple for the non-self-destructive). She's more than a bass player and Daydream Nation is on the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress). And in a gentler vein The Feelies ... I'm nuts about the Feelies.

What's got my attention at the moment? - Sevenball , Megson , Julie Fowlis , Iron and Wine , plus the divine Thomas Tallis... and a big pile of English folk song books I re-discovered in my attic and ooohhh... loads of other things... like Tori Amos 's new stuff and revisiting Kraftwerk (it's not folk, that's for sure).

Band of the year 2007: Garmarna .

Band of the moment: The Conspirators and new release with Judy Dyble guesting on one track.

Song of the moment: the lovely Summery Road to Bielefeld from Wild Carnation . Spot the Feelies connection.

Listening now: You Love Her Coz Shes Dead . I just like it.
Listening recently: Cat Power , especially Nude As The News and Cross Bones Style . What more can I say? And the ever-wonderful Rickie Lee Jones and the wispy spaciness of Laura Veirs .
Was listening: TWISTOR - anyone who gets Roger Penrose in a mix deserves a bit of a listen .

Song of depression: so long as civilians are killed in the name of 'democracy', Faithless' Weapons Of Mass Destruction (George W. Bush Remix) . Anything that mentions the words Karma and Halliburton in the same song can't be bad… unfortunately they still rule …

Sounds Like: You tell me.
Record Label: Solo: none
LSO: A New Day

Calamari Park

This was recorded in a studio in Mansfield by Kate Rounding ages ago and never released. I went a bit mad with all the guitar bits and dreamed some of the words. Kate - if you read this - remind me of...

Song rough recordings

I decided to put up some rough MP3s of songs I'm working on right now, at daveeveritt.org/songs/. They've got glitches and I might alter things here and there, but the basic idea comes across, I hope ...

again I should be working and am not

I have an aversion to time-based deadlines, and when they loom I have an urge to avoid them. Like now, when I might rather be getting a website ready to launch two days away. Not that I won't do it; I...
