my name is Dan the Underdog and I rap my ass off, I produce beats for myself and for a buncha my homeboys: McDee (Dan N Dee), TASK, Sassy J, Casper, Eskatology, Belly, Muzza, Scratch N AEGH, Samoa... just to name a few. This rap shit is a full time job for me, I work at high schools writing and recording hip hop/rnb songs with students during the week and rock a gig that I usually have to promote myself damn near every weekend, except during the school holidays when I cruise out to remote Indigenous communities to run school holiday programs with them, which consists mostly of recording a CD for them to take home and listen to. I live in Alice Springs, NT with my beautiful girlfriend Jess, I've been here for a few years but I was born in Adelaide, SA, same as my Dad. My Mom is from Buffalo, NY, me and my family moved there when I was 9, not long after I started getting into producing my own Hip Hop. I used to record with my boy Toad Unreal in his home studio we put together, then print up my own CD's and sell them in the school cafeteria's or at the Barber Shop or wherever. I lived in Buffalo til I was 18, then moved back to Australia on my own. I started doin gigs around NT with a crew called Teknikal Onslaught, the group broke up, but I still work with most of the original members, from there I gained a few connex and kept doin my thing. I cop a bit of shit for my American accent from those who don't realize it's not fake lol, but those people don't matter, those that know me know I'm ill
I helped TASK produce and record his album "Out of the Darkness", which was put out on CAAMA records, we never seen a dollar from it, but TASK won a few awards, including best up and coming artist, and best indigenous Hip Hop album of the year. I put out a couple CD's with my boy McDee a few years ago, McDee's "B4 Tha Beginning" and the self-titled Dan N Dee. We teamed up with Sassy J and put out an EP which consists of most of the songs you would've heard if you were blessed enough to catch a live show, I also went down to Adelaide for a few months and helped the SA crew put together a compilation called The Jump funded by Arts SA, same time I helped Eskatology finish his "Conscious Reality EP". Man, I've got alot more projects coming up soon, so be on the look out.
Lately I've just been hitting the live shows pretty hard, I've become quite the promoter, and have been getting a few interstate acts into Alice, which never used to happen, big ups to Eskatology, Reason, Ciecmate, Last Kinection, Culture Connect, all the cats who took a chance with me, and the local crews who helped support J Dash P, C Mob, Skank, Sami Cha, 4 Elements, Iwupa, Leon Spurling, Gareth Dawkins, and of course Matt Byrnes and Tim who kept us soundin good throughout.
