Fly me, I'm friendly!

About Me

Me? That's a good 'un! I guess I'm the sum of my experiences and I've had a fairly varied life so far. I think life is a learning experience and I'm not finished learning by a long shot. I try to read between the lines coz I believe there's three sides to every story. Anyways, I'm making a move from good ol' Ireland out to sunny California to finish off my flight training. After that, I think I'll go see the world.

My Interests

Well flying(as you can see!), driving, planes, cars, bikes(I don't drive 'em anymore, check the pics), anything fast and loud really! Travelling, reading, music, movies, so on and so forth! Have to put in an honourable mention for my mate's band "Mike Got Spiked", these guys are damn good and if there's any justice in the world they're going to be big and I ain't just saying that. Check out www.mikegotspiked.com and prepare to be impressed!

I'd like to meet:

All those funny characters you meet when travelling, from old gold prospectors in Reno to crazy Maoris in Sydney! Besides that, same as back in the world I guess, cool peeps on the same wavelength.

Music:

The week before I was mostly listening to CSS and Ian Dury... Last week I was mostly listening to Mount Sims and Richard Cheese, what can I say, he's the only thing myself and Mum can agree on(I don't think she listens to the lyrics too closely...) This week I am mostly listening to the Waterboys, Aphex Twin and Groove Armada.

Movies:

THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED

THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED DIRECTED AND PHOTOGRAPHED BY KIM BARTLEY AND DONNACHA O'BRIAIN IRELAND, 2003 74 MINUTESIN SPANISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLESHUGO CHAVEZ ELECTED PRESIDENT OF VENEZUELA IN 1998, IS A COLORFUL, UNPREDICTABLE FOLK HERO, beloved by his nation's working class and a tough-as-nails, quixotic opponent to the power structure that would see him deposed. Two independent filmmakers were inside the presidential palace on April 11, 2002, when he was forcibly removed from office. They were also present 48 hours later when, remarkably, he returned to power amid cheering aides. Their film records what was probably history's shortest-lived coup d'état. It's a unique document about political muscle and an extraordinary portrait of the man The Wall Street Journal credits with making Venezuela "Washington‚s biggest Latin American headache after the old standby, Cuba."Jeez Louise, where to begin? One does stick out though, "Vanishing Point". Oldie but goody, kinda strikes a chord I guess. "The Bunker" is a recent fav. Right up there so it is. It may be low budget and not everyone's cup of tea but it's a real thinker, psychological horror as it were. Yeah yeah, everybody says Bladerunner but I'm a big K Dick fan so go figure. I thought A Scanner Darkly was pretty good too, pretty faithfull to the book, Phil mighta been proud...

Television:

Don't watch much these days, don't get much of a chance. Progs I like? Naturally enough I'd probably watch Discovery Wings all day long if I could, The Sopranos is Bloody good. Documentaries and the news when I can catch it. BBC's Newsnight is probably the best, check it out out at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/default.stm Fox news it ain't, it's pretty good at seeing through the bullshit and does it's best to show the otherside.

Books:

Not usually into the whole Fantasy thing but George RR Martin's series "A game of thrones" is damn good. Lots of nasty in depth characters and complicated plots, kinda like Lord of the rings for grown ups. If you should pick up one book without reading the dust cover, read "Who?" By Algis Budrys. If I told you anything at all I'd just spoil the first few pages. "A canticle for Liebowitz is also pretty good, by Walter M Miller. You might've guessed, I read a lot of Sci Fi, Philip K Dick is pretty good but not to everyone's taste. Also investigative journalism, the likes of Greg Palast, Eric Schlosser and Noam Chomsky is in there too. Got into the whole graphic novel theing for a bit there. Maus by Art Spiegelman wasthe last one I read, before that was Watchmen, V for Vendetta, reread The Crow and Marshal Law and some old issues of Crises. Went nad got the Ballad of Halo Jones but dang if I went and left it at home! Never really got into the whole DC or Marvel comics thing, always prefered 2000AD, Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper, Strontium Dog and all that.

Heroes:

Nurses! Surgeons are good guys, kinda detached but Nurses are the best. Usually a thankless job in this country but I have to say, thanks to all the Nurses out there!!!

My Blog
