Keith Andrews work both behind the decks and in the
studio have garnered him success in the music
industry. He has been spinning records for over 14
years and his name is attached to some of the most
prolific artists around today. The reason for his
success could stem from the fact that he lives and
breathes music. For him its not just a job; its a
way of life.Born and raised in Long Island, New York, Keith was
the youngest child in his family, and as a result, was
exposed to various genres of music including R&B,
classic rock and heavy metal, just to name a few.
Andrews credits his ability to play an eclectic set to
the eclectic exposure he received from early on.At 16, inspired by his love of music and the
insistence of a friend, he took up the one and twos
spinning at local events and parties. However, his
outlook on DJing changed dramatically when he took a
trip into NYC one Sunday afternoon to a party called
Body & Soul, the famed Sunday party at Vinyl.
Andrews, who was used to hearing uninspired audiences
boo local DJs when they would play anything other
than top 40 dance favorites, was awed when Joe
Clasualle, who was playing Stevie Wonders Do I Do,
dropped the music and had the entire club singing
along to the tune. Andrews had never seen anything
like that in his life and says that remembering the
experience brings him chills to this day.He was hooked, became a regular and in the process was
introduced to the likes of Masters at Work, Roger
Sanchez, David Morales, Eric Morillo, Basement Jaxx
and Danny Teneglia, all of whom continue to inspire
him in both their studio work and DJing skills.
Although Andrews describes his sound as a groovy
blend of everything funky, soulful and edgy, an
obvious homage to those he looked up to, dont pigeon
hole him! His ability to read a crowd and know what
will work is uncanny. As he puts it: My sound changes depending on the
venue Im in. I like to stick with my sound, but Ill
change it up according to what the crowd likes. When
it works and they scream in approval, I get the
biggest rush! It gives you chills and you start
bouncing off the walls! It seems as though his approach has worked. Andrews
has spun for jam packed audiences at some of NYCs
most legendary hot spots, like Soundfactory, Vue, Key
Club, Float, Savannah, Paddy Mc Gees, Slope, Le Souk
and Pacha just to name a few. Other appearances
include Ferrari events, Breast Cancer Walks and
various fundraisers in New York and around the entire
tri-state area. His skills as a DJ are as phenomenal as his passion
for his craft, which has expanded into remix and
original production work. Most recently, Andrews has
work with some of the most prolific artists in dance
music today including Joe Magic, Motomo and DJ Glen
Friscia. Also, he just remixed a song called Lift it
Up by DJ Mike Cruz featuring Inaya Day on Tommy Boy
Records, a gem of a track that would have fit in
perfectly with the Vinyl crowd, naturally!Things are definitely on the rise for this virtuoso,
who is as talented behind the decks as he is in the
studio. His ability is undeniable and along with his
drive things will only be getting better for him.
This man is a force to be reckoned with.
