Influences: Well, my influences are wide & varied. My first huge influence were The Clash. It was their attitude more than anything which inspired me. They showed a unique willingness to experiment with different genres of music. It was The Clash that first got me interested in reggae, mainly 70's & early 80's dub. It was at a Clash gig that I first saw Mikey Dread, who was supporting them. I guess he was the one who got me into dub. I am as much influenced by early funk & soul as I am by the house explosion in the late 80's. My favourite producer has to be Rollo, he has produced tunes of epic proportions. My favourite dance act? Well, it's got to be Way Out West, they're the kings of the breakdown. I have many other influences, here are some of them that I'd like to mention....Hmmmm....The list is endless, but I'll give you a small sample....
Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros, Big Audio Dynamite, Dreadzone, David Bowie, Bourgie Bourgie, Orange Juice, Edwin Collins, Joy Division, New Order, James Brown, Eek-A-Mouse, Nitty Gritty, Tenor Saw, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespear, Clint Eastwood and General Saint, Scientist, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaata & The Soul Sonic Force, Kurtis Blow, Rollo (Dusted and Faithless included), Way Out West, Underworld, Orbital, X-Press 2, Ellis Dee, Rennie Pilgrem, The Beloved, 808 State, Schoneberg, Terry Farley, Pete Heller, Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, Ultavox (with John Foxx), William Orbit (The Strange Cargo albums), KLF (the Chill Out and Space albums), Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Stone Roses, Tom Waites, Vic Goddard and Subway Sect, Elvis Costello and The Attractions, XTC, Lemon Jelly, Fra Lippo Lippi, Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, Associates, The Orb, Tomita, Brian Eno, Propaganda, Yello, Human League (pre Dare), Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers, Talking Heads, Flamin' Groovies, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Ramones, Dead Boys, The Stranglers, The Jam, The Style Council, Public Image Limited, Magazine, 999....Well, most punk stuff from 1976-1978, 70's and early 80's dub, 70's funk and rare groove, 70's and 80's soul, early house and techno, breakbeat & anything with a phat bassline &/or a wicked beat....& I have to add Arcade Fire, their first album, Funeral, is sooooo haunting, their second album, Neon Bible, ain't so bad either.
