Based outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, After The Fall was formed in 2004 by former members of The Smith System, Society’s Rejects, Primitive Fiction, and Orpheus. Combining a multitude of influences including punk, new-wave, post-modern pop/rock, and indie garage-rock, After The Fall has created a non-conformist, genre-bending sound which is virtually unheard of in today’s corporate-controlled, mass-produced music market. Personnel changes in 2008 brought about the recruitment of bassist Dan Leason and drummer Ryan Fisher. ATF's sound is powered by Jeffrey Unger’s flowing, swirly, yet textured guitar work, which is backed by the heart-pounding rhythm of Ryan Fisher's drums, and the driving and melodious bass-lines of Dan Leason which create a layered, almost orchestral groundwork punctuated by singer John Madeley’s hook-filled vocal melodies. Together they combine to form a unique blend which makes each song come across as bigger and more grandiose sounding than the typically forgettable verse-chorus-verse-chorus ramblings that are unfortunately prevalent in the music created by most cookie cutter pop and rock acts in the local and national music scenes of late. Individually, the 4 members of After The Fall bring years of live performance, national and international touring, as well as thousands of hours of in-studio experience to the band. Influenced by bands such as Joy Division, The Smiths, and The Cure with a little bit of low-fi realism ala The Velvet Underground, The Sex Pistols, and The Psychedelic Furs thrown in, After The Fall are determined to bring their original alternative/indie-rock sound to the masses. Although difficult to categorize into any one specific genre, the music of After The Fall can be seen as comparable to other up and coming acts such as The Killers, Interpol, and The Editors, due to their similar use of catchy melodies, driving guitars, and pulse-pounding rhythms. Add to that their use of well-crafted, intelligently-ironic yet introspective lyrics and its no surprise that the band connects with audiences of all ages in a uniquely personal way.
