About Me

Once upon a time there was a band called Jim’s Big Ego. They were a good band with good songs. In the course of their travels they played their music on a radio show called Radio8Ball in Olympia, Washington. The host of Radio8Ball was a man named Andras Jones. It was a pretty interesting show where he and his co-host answered callers’ questions by picking songs at random and interpreting those songs like they were the callers’ musical tarot cards. Andras had been hosting this radio show for almost ten years. He based the format on dream seminars his father had led in the 70’s. When Jim’s Big Ego experienced this format they liked it a lot and their leader Jim Infantino asked Andras if he would be willing to collaborate with them on a stage show in Boston where Jim’s Big Ego’s songs would be the music and Andras would do the divination. The show would be called The Ego & The Oracle. Andras liked the idea of working with Jim’s Big Ego and he liked the idea of doing the shows in Boston where he had many friends and family.
Jim and Andras worked together for a year and a half developing the show. They produced it in Boston and in Seattle and in Boston again. Unfortunately, when there was a creative disagreement between Andras and the band’s manager over the integrity of the divination an argument ensued and the next day Andras was fired from his own show. This wasn’t nice and it may not even have been legal.
The Ego & The Oracle continued without Andras Jones' consent. The last we heard Jim's Big Ego had enlisted the services of an improv comic to do the divination and audiences were leaving in droves. Perhaps it is karma. The current production does not accurately credit Andras for his contribution to the show, nor is the production compensating Andras fairly for his work on it. Worst of all, The Ego & The Oracle has taken a powerful medium for exploring synchronicity and the interconnectedness of all things and turned it into some kind of not-very-funny comedy and music showcase.
In the mean time Andras Jones continues to host his radio shows and present the Radio8Ball format in cities across America. For those who wish to experience a genuine pop oracle live Andras will be hosting The Radio8Ball Show on stages in Seattle, Minneapolis, Los Angeles & New York City through the summer and the fall with a variety of great musical artists. You can click on the Radio8Ball link in our top friends for more info about The Radio8Ball Show live and on the radio.
The Ego $tole The Oracle is an alternative web-based production featuring musical clips from the history of the ill-fated show and an interactive dialogue about divination & integrity. This page will also feature the evolution of Jones' latest musical composition "A Serious Sincere Question" based upon his battles with The Ego.

Band Members: Andras Jones as "Professor Oracle"

Andras Jones as "Professor Oracle" brings a lifetime of art and subversion to this production. As an actor he has starred in several Hollywood productions, mostly cult horror films (Nightmare On Elm Street 4, Sorority Babes In The Slimeball Bowl-A-Rama and, most recently, The Attic Expeditions) and avante garde stage productions in Washington state (The Transfused by Nomy Lamm and The Need, and his own production of Sacred Sexy: A Tantric Vibe Opera Transforming Jealousy.)

His indie music career is equally varied, releasing ten of his own CD's and travelling north America with his band The Previous in search of the ever-ellusive rock and roll holy grail (it still eludes him), while licensing songs to motion pictures and ghostwriting with and for some of his more well-known peers (We can't drop the names or it wouldn't be ghostwriting.) Along the way there have been forrays into journalism, shamanism, agenting, activism and custodial librarianing.

Although rewarding, none of these activties can compare with the impact and inspiration of Radio8Ball, his radio show upon which The Ego and The Oracle is based. This live call-in divination show, in which a caller's question is answered by picking CD's at random, playing it on shuffle function and interpretting the song which is randomly selected as the caller's musical tarot card, has been broadcasting on KAOS 89.3 FM in Olympia, Washington since 1998.

Guests on the show have included Rickie Lee Jones, Dan Bern & Michael Penn as well as some of the finest independent touring acts of the last decade. One of these bands is Jim's Big Ego who appeard on Radio8Ball last Valentine's Day and were so inspired with the format that they decided to bring it to the stage and to "cast" Andras Jones in the role of Professor Oracle, a role which he created or as Jones insists, "a role which created me."

Jim's Big Ego as "The Band"

Perform a Google search for "the Greatest Band in the History of Recorded Music" and you will get only one result: Jim's Big Ego.

Hailing from the small New England town of Boston, Jim's Big Ego has carved a unique place in the the music world by rocking harder, fresher, louder, sweeter and better than everyone else.

Jim's Big Ego's secret to awesomeness is singer, songwriter, super genius, Jim Infantino. Armed with the innate ability to create songs that are more brilliant than all others in history, Infantino gives the band the gift of greatness.

Jim's Big Ego compares itself to such major players as The Great Wall of China, The Grand Canyon, Antarctica, and other things you can see from space. However, when pressed to label their music, they name their genre of music "Unpop for the Unpopulous".

While the debate still rages over whether the band's formation was a matter of divine providence or historical inevitability, one fact remains clear: if the world ended today, Jim's Big Ego would die happy knowing that they were more talented than Oasis, more popular than Terrence Trent D'Arby and richer than MC Hammer.
