I'd like to meet:
..Young Kicker Cartel (YKC) is a group of Five, 21 year olds
dedicated to entertaining the public through Music & Dancing.
Brief History
From the early days, G-Man, Junior J, Dooksie and Fu-Cha Vybz shared a common interest in the type of music they listened to, mainly due to the caribbean connection we all shared amongst a school with very little Black people.
In the year 2000, Dooksie and a friend set up a musical collective called Broke'n'Bones Crew, which was highly influenced by UK Garage which was booming at the time. This Crew may not have been successful in terms of gaining commercial success but it helped form a bond between Dooksie, Fu-Cha & G-Man which would last to this day.
After going to different Colleges, as a collective they fell off the map, but individually, they were reaching for the stars whether it be in music, sport, or gaining qualifications.
In 2004, G-Man, Dooksie, Junior J & Fu-Cha started going to Friday Nite Mass (Not Church) in Brixton and began getting into the Music once again and taking a particular shine to "The Dancing Fraternity" (The Dancing side to Dancehall Music). Friday Nite Mass was the perfect setting to display their talents due to the set up of the club, and soon enough they were being recognised on the street as "Those Dancing Guys from Mass". From then on, they were 'mashing up' every rave they went to. They also have a long standing relationship with a Notting Hill Carnival Band called South Connections, whom they perform and dance with every year on the August Bank Holiday.
At the end of Summer 2004, Dooksie, Junior J and G-Man went to University all across the country so the dancing stopped until summer 2005 when they all met up & once again 'mashed up' every dance across the Capital. They began being recognised alot considering they hadnt really promoted themselves and it only occured to them to create a name when people started to ask what their dance group was called. Dooksie thought of the name "Young Kicker Cartel" after their love for the Shoe Brand, and from then, the name stuck.
Because of there love for dancing & Dancehall music, it was inevitable that Young Kickers would start to want to actually play the tunes they want to hear on radio and in nightclubs! Dooksie & Junior J kicked this off when they obtained a radio slot in Cardiff (where they both Studied) on Xpress Radio which broadcasts across Cardiff and the Internet.
With the addition of a fifth member Eagle Eye in the year of 2005, Young Kickers began going from strength to strength within the London Bashment Circuit.
When Summer 2006 Came about, Young Kickers began a heavy self promotion campaign to show Promoters that they are worthy of playing at their Raves. This Persistance got Young Kickers a weekly slot at Brockwells nightclub, Herne Hill on Fridays and also a radio show on Genesis 91.6FM on Thursdays through Senior P.
From this website, YKC would like to get in touch with even more promoters/club owners/Fellow DJ's to help get our Brand out there. And this is promised... YOUNG KICKERS WILL MASH UP ANY RAVE THEY PLAY AT
