More importantly, some of the clubs in the city opened their doors to new musicians making their own music, which is quite precious when compared to Istanbul’s pubs where bands are often asked to play cover versions. Thankfully, there is an exception to that, as Peyote in Taksim district has become a haven for Istanbul’s indie bands. Breeding some of the country’s biggest alternative names such as Mor ve Ötesi, Replikas, Baba Zula in its first years in the late 1990s, the club was later closed down. When it reopened after a few years, it single-handedly provided the indie scene for Istanbul.
