Equalizer is a monthly live music event, hosted by darkrooom (2210 W. Chicago Ave.) and presented by KEXP.ORG, The Onion and 312unes, which showcases independent local, regional and national touring bands on the first Thursdays of each month.

If you RSVP on the day before an Equalizer show or earlier, your name will be on the RSVP list. Simply mention that you sent an RSVP at the door, and you will be admitted for the low price of $5.

Equalizer follows in the footsteps of KEXP's other now famous national showcases such as New York's acclaimed Friction event held at the Mercury Lounge. Other KEXP residencies occur in Austin, Portland, and of course Seattle.

• Equalizer is promoted and supported by KEXP 90.3 FM in Seattle and on KEXP.ORG worldwide as well as by the KEXP Chicago Posse street team and by means of a partnership with The Onion and 312unes.com . This event will also be covered on the KEXP Blog , an increasingly popular music news resource.

• Artists are selected to play Equalizer by darkroom based on a fit with KEXP’s eclectic, progressive and independently driven programming format as well as the artist’s roots in Chicago, as well as regional and national touring acts.

KEXP In Chicago: In recent years KEXP Seattle has become an undeniable force in the emergence of independent music worldwide but right now nowhere is that more true than in Chicago. For the second year in a row this listener supported station has received more contributions from Chicago than any other city outside of Seattle and New York. In September 2006 KEXP came to Chicago for 3 days to broadcast live out of Engine Studios in Wicker Park as a thank you for such committed patronage in the windy city. To conclude the Chicago Broadcast a KEXP listener party was held at darkroom with artists featured on the weekend's broadcast. The Broadcast and the party were both a smashing success and KEXP returned in October 2007 to celebrate Chicago listeners yet again. In fact, the station has decided to make the Chicago visit an annual Fall event. Equalizer is intended to give KEXP listeners in Chicago access to a consistent KEXP presence in Chicago and to give the rest of the world a window into the creative explosion occurring in the Midwest by shining a spotlight on deserving local artists.
