RAVENHOUSE is a group of young educated and experienced composers and musicians who have music encoded in their DNA; their strong desire to deliver themselves and their listeners to freedom takes their songs to a new dimension in the rocknroll spectrum with a unique and irresistible sound and performance. The band was formed in 1999. They effectively utilize years of classical and progressive rock music training.
The original music performed by RAVENHOUSE is primarily collaboration between Jiri Cafourek, who composes and arranges most of the music and some lyrics, his sister Iva Slezingrova, and mysteriously poetic character named Raven, who writes the lyrics but does not perform with the band.
Jiri graduated from the Music School where he studied piano and music theory. Moreover, he is an accomplished, bass player and rhythm guitarist. Iva is a graduate of the same school as Jiri. She studied piano and clarinet; in addition, since foundation of the band she mastered the now essential instrument of the band, the flute.
Iva and Jiri are accomplished vocalists: Iva, who studied singing in opera, has a stunning voice that gets under ones skin and then applies a vigorous massage. She also performs in musicals. Jiri, who was a featured vocalist in the Choir, has a powerful throaty vocal that fully complements Iva.
Andrej Papez who is also a graduate from the Music School in clarinet and flute plays the thought-scrambling and melodic bass as well as keyboard. Recently the band is looking for a drummer. The music of RAVENHOUSE naturally incorporates classical training of its members, elements of jazz and even folklore, and, of course, their devotion to rock. The result is a truly refreshing, out-of-the-ordinary listening experience.
