Earth To Eros began in its earliest stage in the summer of 2005 in Huntington, WV. Former CHUM and Semi-Automatic lead vocalist/guitarist, John Lancaster invited old friend and former Hybrid Zero bassist Barry Smith over to his house where he has a modest recording set up in his attic. Barry was asked to lend some bass lines and ideas, if for anything for old times sake since John and Barry both played together in the early 90’s in local band Guru Lovechild. For this reason, it didn’t take long for them to fall into a collaborative groove. Arming themselves with a guitar, a bass, assorted drum loops and huddled around a computer, they began piecing together sketches of ideas that would eventually serve as a stepping stone to what Earth to Eros is today. After countless attic sessions were spent, John and Barry found they shared a common desire in that they both longed to play in a live situation once again. In the summer of 2006, nearly a year later since the very first attic session, enter drummer Rusty Knight. Rusty refined his aggressive style in local bands like Lights Out, In Stereo, and even a brief stint in 60 Cycle Hum in which bassist Barry Smith was also a band mate. From the first rehearsal the band clicked instantly, discovering a new vibe altogether and a notably much different one from the attic demos. This inspired them to scratch nearly all the material John and Barry had worked on up to that point and start again with a clean slate.
In the winter of 2006, the band released their debut 5 song EP entitled “Black Naked Eyeâ€. From the opening shuffle groove of “Faces†to the psychotic outro of the closing tune “Behind the Smileâ€, you’ll hear the beginnings of a musical direction that each band member will tell you is still in the midst of an evolution. An evolution they hope to continue throughout their duration.
