Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

BBBS of Miami is the premier mentoring organization of South Florida, helping thousands of children each year through professionally supported, one-on-one relationships with caring adult volunteers. BBBS of Miami, founded in 1958, is one of the largest BBBS agencies in the country, serving more than 6,000 local children, volunteers and families both in community- and school-based programs.Big Brothers Big Sisters was selected by Forbes Magazine as one of its top ten charities, earning the publication rating, which identifies those charities most worthy of donor consideration. The magazine surveyed 200 non-profits and rated them on how efficiently they collect and distribute dollars. BBBS was the only mentoring agency in the top ten.Agency Support:All services are free to the volunteers and children, who are encouraged to take advantage of the free tickets and social/educational activities that are offered to help make their matches a success for both Bigs and Littles.. A professional social worker assigned to each match . Quarterly Volunteer Network meetings . Special events: picnics, appreciation luncheons, and other activities . Monthly outings for pairs sponsored by BBBS and its supporters (i.e., sporting events, plays, concerts) . Quarterly newsletter and e-bulletin

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

BBBS offers a variety of options depending on volunteer schedule and interest. Being a Big doesn't always require a huge time commitment, and no special skills are required. It basically means being a friend to a child. All matches are carefully screened and supported by our team of professional social workers.Community Based Mentoring An adult volunteer is paired with a child between the ages of 5-16 in a one to one relationship and meet regularly.Couples/Family Matches:Married couples are paired with a child and meet twice per month.Community Partners:Employees at civic-minded companies and municipalities are offered paid leave by their employers to volunteer as Bigs with local school children on a regular basis.College Mentors:University students are paired with children and participate in one-on-one and group activities during the school year.High School Volunteers:High school students earn community service hours and gain valuable experience serving as friends and mentors to children in nearby elementary schools.School to Work:Employee mentors are paired with high school students at their worksites four hours a month during the school year. Students gain valuable exposure to workplace skills and career opportunities.BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF GREATER MIAMITOGETHER, WE ARE PART OF SOMETHING BIG! www.wementor.org (305) 644-0066 Contact Adam Effertz at ext.253 to get involved!
