Howlin' Harp Dog Jones

About Me

&nbspHarp dog found the Blues from a very early age, when his mother used to sing spirituals to him as she worked the cotton fields on the banks of the river Amman. Much of his childhood was spent around the "swamplands" of upper Brynamman. This was to be a decisive factor in his becoming a Bluesman, for when he was ten years old he had both his legs bitten off at the knees by an Alligator. Unable to work in the cotton fields he decided that the only alternative was to become a musician. He always wanted to play the guitar really badly and after 20 years of not trying very hard, he succeeded in being able to play the guitar quite badly indeed. Not content with just playing the guitar ineptly, he decided to enrol at the Les Dawson harmonica school where he became their star pupil. It was during this time that he was introduced to some other influential Bluesmen such as "Blind Wil Puw", "Caribbean Reece", "Black Sea" Harris & Dai "Sunny Boy" Edwards. Their influences brought about some of Harp Dog's greatest songs notably, I Got No cawl For My Supper, There's No More Coal In The Shed Ma, I Didn't Wake Up This Morning, Sweet Home Brynamman & the rock & roll classic Johnny No Good.
&nbspHarp dog was allso a founder member of The Guttbucket Blues Band, which still gigs in and around the Swansea area. He Is also a member of the Drs Road Band and has guested & jammed with numerous bands including :- The Accused, Fast Oscar, High Class Tramps, Jelly Rabbit, Magic Bus, The Squirts, Tin Pan Alley, Gary & Taff, Panic Station, The Journeymen, Sugerland Slim, Pat Grovers Blue Zeros, Paul Martinez, The Spikedrivers, Bluze Cruze & numerous others.
&nbspHe has Also recently done a couple of Acoustic gigs with Owen from South Wales' premier blues band Panic Station.
