Charles Bells

Charles Bells (CB) came into being on the day Karel van Bellingen, born 30.5.1984, decided on a name that would cover for all of his artsy endeavors, be it in writing, music, graphic art or filmmaking. As a musician the main focus lies on electronic music production and its live performance. Young Charlie spent several years playing the piano, drums and even the guitar but never got total satisfaction out of any of those instruments. At 17, he got overwhelmed by the endless possibilities of electronic instruments like synthesizers and samplers, and a Roland MC505 Groovebox became the weapon of choice. Thus, while being a sucker for all kinds of music, from metal to opera and back, Charles found creative nirvana in the form of electronic Mayhem. Being a child from the Digital Age, it wasnt long before Charles ditched the hardware and laptops, soundcards and software infested his studio since the extremely compact, hi-tech nature of this way of composing seemed attractive. Slowly, getting more experienced at producing and learning day by day, he realised he wanted to go live more or less completely and leave the decks for rare occasions. Whereas CB started out limiting himself mostly to the classic Detroit techno aesthetic, much has happened since the live debut in Leuven on 26.11.2004 and nowadays a mixture of emotional electronica, heavily characterized by minimal, progressive, cinematic and ambient influences originates from the Foxhole (CBs studio). However, nothing indicates you wont be blown to bits by some merciless, raw technobeats during a liveset since Charles hasnt lost his love for the pounding stuff either. More soon.
