I'm originally a Texan, raised in Houston, but lived in Austin for 5 years prior to relocating with my company. I moved to Philadelphia in late October 2001 to help my company transfer an accounting department from Frderick, MD to Wilmington, DE. As Wilmington is not a thriving, diverse metropolis, I opted to for an apartment in Center City Philly and commute an hour by train each way.
So far it's a been a cool experience here; it's definitely an improvement from the 2 years I spent in Frederick, MD...anyone ever eat at the Kountry Kitchen Korner?

****In my time here, I've learned that a vehicle is a luxury, not a necessity and that walking is a great way to learn about the city you live in (except in mid January); I've enjoyed my naps on the train, but I've hated the alarm clock ring at 5am to catch the train to work; I've gained 10 lbs, lost them and now back back at 10lbs heavier; I've had a goatee, a mustache and chinstrap, and now a full beard; I've been confronted by the same con-artist on the streets 4 times (each time his introduction is shortened by the realization that he has repeatedly told mw the same story); I've seen the number of homeless grow each season and become much more aggressive when asking for money;I've seen a multitude of condos erected and crime grow in record breaking numbers; I've missed my friends, but I've made a couple of new ones; I've been sad, I've been happy, but I've been grateful for the experience of living outside of my stomping grounds.

Frustrations that can ruin my day are the actions of religious extremism (and that goes for us Roman Catholics too), hearing G-dubya on the tv, friends who never reply to my emails, receiving myspace friend requests without any introduction or prior message, not having milk for my cereal, radiator heating not functioning during winter, losing/forgetting my train pass, cutting my ear(s) while clipping my hair.
Things that can put a smile on my face include, hearing from friends, The Family Guy, good food with a good friend, the first snowfall of the season, hearing my nieces'/nephews' voices, the warmth of clothes from the dryer, hearing the alarm clock at 5am and realizing it's Saturday and I don't have to work, receiving Christmas cards, hearing my grandfather's voice.
