  • ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- David's first CD, In Midtown, is a collection of folk and folk/rock songs most requested by his audiences. The production is open and acoustic, with clear acoustic guitar, and some fiddle, accordion, or banjo thrown in for a light touch. His vocals remind some of John Denver. His great story songs remind some of John Prine or John Gorka. The title cut, In Midtown, is a humorous look at all of the "creative, unique, artistic and cantankerous" people who live in the Kansas City Midtown area. ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- Davids second CD, Dancing Now, is a live recording of 11 new offerings often requested by his audiences. This was recorded at the All Souls Coffeehouse on March 11, 2000 with wonderful vocal harmonies by Narissa Bond. ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- Davids third CD, Loose Upon The Street, takes you from the driving guitar riffs of The Getaway to the healing vibrations of Home Cooking. Fans love the politicl songs in this album. ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- David's fourth CD, There's a Storm, is a mix of soothing songs of healing and high-energy political songs. Sometimes the winds of change blow hard on a C harp, wail at the corporate towers and shake the roots of rock 'n' roll. ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- Openers Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer - Lawrence, KS Bill Staines - Kansas City, MO ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- Kansas City Appearances Spirit Fest The Fringe Festival Westport Coffeehouse Mildred's Coffeehouse Toto's Muddy's Coffeehouse Planet Cafe Eden Ally Cafe Doc and Bruties Harling's Borders Books ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- Area Appearances Edgar's Place, Chicago, IL Cafe Acoustic, St. Joseph, MO Full Moon Cafe, Lawrence, KS P.T.'s Cafe, Topeka, KS White Buffalo Cafe, Pittsburg, KS Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival, Winfield, KS Stage Right Coffeehouse, Omaha, NE House concerts including: Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; and Sioux City, IA ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- Songwriting Awards Showcase `96 Open Category Winner for Salt & Pepper Days Winfield Songwriters Showcase `98 for Barbara's Place and Sidewalk Van Gogh Winfield Songwriters Showcase 2000 for Eyes of Galileo Winfield Songwriters Showcase 2004 for Bungalow

Band Members: Here are long clips of songs from my latest two CDs. You can listen, download, share and buy the CDs at www.DavidHakan.com.

Influences: My musical influences include Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Eric Anderson, John Prine, Leonard Cohen, Suzanne Vega, John Denver, Don McLean and Stephen Stills.
Sounds Like: Praise for Loose Upon The Street: His writing embodies all that I know about folk music - I hear Tom Paxton, John Denver, Bob Dylan, and the echoes of others all made new. My absolute favorite on this CD is "Working In Stone", a song about a stone mason's life. I love gospel choir music, and this is a wonderful example of that genre. I kept playing it over and over, and it has the sound of a classic. - Charisse Kahler, songwriter
