------------------------------Marcel has lived in Toronto for the past six years teaching musicand working as a professional musician. During these years he hasheld regular gigs at the Cameron House (Michael Js DimestoreOrchestra, 1999-2001), The Rex Hotel Jazz and BluesBar (Carey West Quartet, 2001-2002), Lounge 88 (RhythmChanges, 2002-2003), and Gate 403 (Lyne Tremblay, 2001-2004).He has also been a featured performer in a number of jazz festivalsincluding The Distillery, Toronto Downtown Jazz, Barrieand 416 Toronto Creative Improvisers Festival. Marcel hascompleted several CDs as a sideman: Crush (Michael J), Face it(Scott Marshall trio), and Break and Enter (Lyne Tremblay). In 2005he released Weird Cocktail, his first CD as a leader. Severalpieces from that album were featured in the independent film GrilledCheese Sandwich. Marcel also recently composed, arranged, andperformed the music for the East Hill Productions film Rise up, which isscheduled for broadcast on the Canadian arts and entertainment networkBravo!, and was the only Canadian film to be featured in this year’sprestigious AFI film featival in Los Angeles, California.Some past awards include Ontario Arts Council Popular MusicGrants for songwriting (Out of Order, 2000) and recording (MarcelAu Coin trio, 2004), and a Bravo!fact grant to produce a video forthe composition Reverie, which was co-written with MichaelJohnson and Wes Neal, and went on to become one of Bravo!s topvideos for over three months. From 2003 to 2005, he curated theseries entitled Strange Folk with Geordie Haley, which was held atseveral venues before finding a home at Holy Joes on QueenStreet. The series featured singer-songwriters, improvised music,dance, spoken word, and short plays, and was held on thefirst Thursday of every month. In December of 2005 he began aseries for improvised music in his own apartment entitled The PinkWindow. So far there have been no complaints from his neighbours.Marcel is currently working on a solo album that will hopefully bereleased sometime in the fall of 2006.
