About Me

What is Hum Ek? It’s more than a dance group and it’s definitely more than two people. If you’re only interested in what you can see and here, then Hum Ek is two brothers Ajax and JD who put their heart into every dance move and lyric of every song. If you want to know more, then keep reading. If I take this back to 1992, then it would sound like this...Being too young to get into a real club, two kids decided it would be fun to check out a show with performances. Also being to broke to get into these shows, they decided to get involved and get in for free. Again not having much to offer, the two boys were signed up as an opening act. I would love to say their performance was off da hook and the crowd gave them a standing ovation but the reality was very much the opposite... but something definitely happened that night. One of the two boys felt that stage and the audience and left with the fire to get back on. He then harassed 3 of his friends until they started there own dance group. This dance group started performing at small shows as the opening act and less than a year later became the finishing act of shows which had upwards of 2000 people in attendance. This groups was known as the "Fijian Videsis"During the next 2 years, the Fijian Videsis toured and had fun. They grew in the number of members. They grew in their love for dance and they started something amazing... a brotherhood. Then came a new era. Fijian Videsis were invited to combine with four other talented dance groups and became known as Hum Ek. Their popularity soared to new heights. The group was on top of the world, traveling to local dance competitions and being invited to perform at all the local and not so local Indian events. Hum Ek began to enjoy fame and popularity in the bay area Indian communities. With the new found popularity... their brotherhood was now stronger than ever.August 31st, 1996. Everything changed...Due to our own carelessness... our own popularity... our own egos... we lost one of our own brother's.The next 8 years were a blur of pain, depression, isolation and anger. The group was torn apart. Brothers and sisters turned their backs and would no longer speak to each other. The once unbreakable brother hood turned into lies, back stabbing and bitterness. What had we done?In a dark room where I could see nothing but the horror of my own mistake, I soaked in guilt and waited for reason to go on. In 2004, my wait had ended. My best friend and my brother Roneal showed me the way.August 2004 in Tracy California was the return. Instead of 12 people we had 2. Instead of a major community event we had a family reception. Instead of bitterness and depression, we had heart. We had everything we needed. As we walked on stage that night, there was so much in our minds and hearts. When we walked off that stage, the only thing we had left was the fire to get back on and perform.Life is short… Dance Hard!!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Ourdeepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that mostfrightens us.' We ask ourselves, Who am I to bebrilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Yourplaying small does not serve the world. There'snothing enlightened about shrinking so that otherpeople won't feel insecure around you. We are allmeant to shine, as children do. We were born to makemanifest the glory of God that is within us. It'snot just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as welet our own light shine, we unconsciously give otherpeople permission to do the same. As we're liberatedfrom our own fear, our presence automaticallyliberates others.by Marianne Williamson
