About Me

Tenor Mario Arévalo, born and raised in El Salvador, has received his Master of Music degree from the prestigious College of Fine Arts at Boston University and his Bachelor of Arts Magna Cum Laude from Purchase College School of the Arts. Mr. Arévalo recently was a National finalist in The National Opera Association Young Artist Competition 2008, in which he was awarded The Legacy Award. He won Honorary Mention in the Five Towns Young Artist Competition and was a semi-finalist in The Paul Straney Competition with the Long Island Masterworks Association and a Lakes Region Opera Idol Finalist Winner.On the operatic stage, he performed such roles as Le Petit Villard with the Boston University Symphony, A Bureaucrat in the American Premiere of The Hostage by Craig Wick, Emperor Nero in the first-place winner 2008 for L’Incoronazione di Poppea from The National Opera Association, Monastatos in The Magic Flute, directed by Albert Sherman, and Schumann’s Conrad in the American premiere of Genoveva in the summer of 2006. He has been Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, L’Aumonier in first-place winner opera from National Opera Association for The Dialogues of the Carmelites, King Kasper in Amahl and the Night Visitors and Aeneas/Sailor in Dido and Aeneas. In the spring of 2007 he made his NYC debut with the Purchase Opera at the Wall-to-Wall Opera in Symphony space. He had the privilige of working in Masterclasses with Jennifer Larmore, Maria Spacagna, Joseph Colaneri, Simon Estes, John Moriarty,Phyllis Curtin, Tobias Picker and Jean Claude Corbeil and more.Recent and upcoming performances includes: Monsieur Grivet in Therese Raquin written by Tobias Picker,University Premiere in the Northeastern region February 2009 at the Boston University Huntington Theater. Arturo in Lucia di Lamermoor directed by Sharon Daniels and conducted by Maestro Lumpkin April 2009. On April 25th, 2009 he performed his Master of Music recital at Boston University and in the summer of 2009 will be giving his international operatic debut in Canada at the Niagara Music Festival and Italy Citta del Pieve, Umbria and some other cities in the world premiere of Iago written by Carlo Pedini with text by Karen Saillant/Christian Bygott.

Influences: First and foremost, I thank God for giving me the strength that is needed in order to do this career. With him I know everything is possible; I put my career and future in is hands. Secondly my parents, for being both wonderful and exemplary role modes. I thank you both for all the support, regardles of my stumbling you both have always been there to help me up. You have taught me to be a strong, humble and caring person. Lessons that I will never forget. My biggest influences in this career are my parents and family and then from there i would definately say my idol Placido Domingo who someday I wish I can meet him and sing for him ~ Fritz Wunderlich ~ Jose Cura ~ Marcelo Alvarez ~ Ramon Vargas and Juan Diego Flores all of them hispano tenors that have make a career as opera singers. My hope is to dream and achieve what they have already accomplish as latino tenors of the world.
