Music!!! Music is my life. It always has been. My Dad said that when I was little it was almost impossible to get me to sleep. One night he turned on the radio and I shut up. For the longest time, a radio accompanied me to sleep. I listen to music as I drift into sleep almost every night. I guess it makes sense that I am musically inclined. I am working on my demo as you read this.I coach a girl's fastpitch softball team. My girls are my life. They are all so different. I am trying to teach them both the fundamentals of softball, the love of the game, and how to turn on that "aggressive" mode. It's tough but we're progressing slowly, but surely. My only fear is that the intense pressure of competing at this level will burn them out. I was there before I went to the 01 Junior Olympic World Championships for the USA in Sydney. I about quit just weeks before we left. I was burnt out. So I've been there and know what it's like. For a beautiful presentation of elegance, please see my girl's between games we were hosting back in January. Please note that this is 3 of the 9 I have and they are all (as one of my girl's says) PINEAPPLES. That is, no matter what color they are on the outside, they are all blonde on the inside...
I am never content to stand still. If you stand still then ultimately you are taking steps backwards as everyone else passes you by. To continue to move forward, you need people around you who make you want to be a better person. I only allow people into my life whom I feel I will learn something from.On a sidenote, I really want to meet Kathy Griffin and Monique Powell (of Save Ferris). I would love to sit with Kathy and just talk trash and eat ice cream. I would love to go clubbing with Monique and record a track with her.
Wow, where to start. I'm going to list both artists and albums/songs/lyrics that are huge influences for me. I love everything Sugababes. Their last album, "Taller in More Ways," is especially amazing and has inspired me to write more challenging melodies. For an example of this, listen to these tracks from them (off various albums): Joy Division, Ace Reject, 2 Hearts, Caught in a Moment, Situation's Heavy, Maya, Who (b-side), Round Round, Stronger, Just Don't Need This, More Than a Million Miles. There's way more, but there are other inspirations. My likes: Aaliyah, Alanis Morissette, All Saints, Anastacia, The Cardigans, Cher, Christina Aguilera, Danni Minogue, Dusty Springfield, Elkland, En Vogue, Fiona Apple, Garbage, Gladys Knight, India. Arie, JC Chasez, Joss Stone, Justin Timberlake, Kelis, Kelly Clarkson, Kelly Osbourne, Kylie Minogue, Lisa Marie Presley, Madonna, Mandy Moore, Muse, Nelly Furtado, Panic at the Disco, Pink, Postal Service, Sarah Brightman, Save Ferris, Siobhan Donaghy, Rachel Stevens, Girls Aloud, Roisin Murphy, Teena Marie, Utada, Whitney Houston. There are a ton more but I just went with what was off the top of my head. As for producers, I like: Rodney Jerkins, Glen Ballard, Timbaland, Linda Perry, Xenomania, Brian Higgins, and of course, my producer's, Adam Gubman and Susan Rumor. Check out what happens with about :32 seconds left in this video (right side). Yup, that's Heather and I at a Panic concert. If you've read any of my blogs you would know that was the night that so much of our lives changed forever. Some for the better and some for the worse. Nevertheless, it seems fitting to have it ..ed on video then broadcast to the nation on New Year's Eve. All the while we were in bed sleeping.
Um, well let's see here. I've been touched by: Get Real, Trick, the Broken Hearts Club, Brokeback Mountain, Garden State and A.I. I also like: 28 Days, Dogma, Requiem for a Dream, Monster, Far From Heaven, What Dreams May Come, 300, Perfume, Pan's Labyrinth, etc. My fav animated films are: Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, and Lilo and Stitch.
My favorite shows are no longer on the air. Dead Like Me, the Book of Daniel, Everwood, Rome, Angel, Keeping Up Appearances, Absolutely Fabulous, Coupling, Gilmore Girls, and the Golden Girls. However, I still watch the L Word, Campus Ladies, ER, Law and Order: SVU, My Life on the D-List, Project Runway, Amazing Race, Workout, 30 Days, So You Think You Can Dance, the Tudors, Family Guy, Heroes, and more...
I just finished Anderson Cooper's, "Dispatches from the Edge." Before that, I read all of Christopher Rice's books, as well as all of Margaret Cho's. I need to start something new soon. Lately, it's been self help books. I'm a mission of self discovery.
I don't know if I have any. I'll have to give some more thought to this...
