Back in my radio days,I would have never been associated with any station that didn't invest in professional imaging. In fact, I went to work for one station because of the package they were using! LOL. Above are some of the great jingles used over the years. JAM Productions has always been a favorite. Others include Jones/TM (Formerly TM/Century) PAMS and Gwinsound. Believe it or not, it was hearing these sung call letters and slogan lines that helped keep me glued to the radio as a kid. Later, I would learn that Dallas,TX was the home to just about every commercial jingle heard in television as well. I got to know the late Fred Hardy at JAM Productions in the mid 80's. A great guy who gave me the ins/outs of the industry and fueled my interest in audio recording and production. Later, I would speak with Ben Freedman, another Dallas great who at the time was reviving PAMS in the early CPMG days. I once had a girlfriend who said my interest was in things nobody else cared about. Thankfully, she was wrong. Today, I still collect them including copies of every station I worked at. The web has exposed thousands of enthusiasts all over the world. Most people associate a product with some sort of slogan, and for radio it remains memorable. The first radio jingles I heard was from PAMS, TM,and Gwinsound which aired on WBBQ in Augusta,GA. in the early 70's. (or at least paid attention to!LOL) Later, a combination of JAM and back to TM. WBBQ used the legendary "The Alternative" package created for WQXI in 1978, and was in use for over ten years. You can check out some great stuff at www.jingles.com for an inside look at the industry and what's happening today at JAM, the #1 choice for jingles.
I'd like to thank the many people who have emailed or joined my page. Especially, those who remember me over the years. The club peeps who kept me spinning the dance floor till early in the morning. The radio fans who made my closed door grill sessions with management damn well worth it,and the many bands who came to me with their music. A special thanks to my long time friend Sinichi Yumino with Fuji Corp. in Japan, and a few renegade DJ colleagues.I've often been asked what is my favorite station since I'm sometimes critical of many. Well, there are a few. WLS,WABC,WNOK,WAPW,WHTZ,WANS,WKLS,WQXI, I could name more! These were stations who were pros at Top 40/CHR radio. The most memorable..........WBBQ.
The picture above was taken in the late 70's. at the stations second home on Georgia Ave. in North Augusta.
One of the greats,John Odum AKA Buddy Carr seen in the above pic. Inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in 2007. Buddy passed away in 1985. Other influences were Dick Shannon who also passed away in 2007,and Charlie Foxx. These were my mentors......Radio personalities with a passion.
