I'm one charming (seriously :), cold-hearted, logical bastard. No, I'm not illegitimate, though I definitely take after my mother's side more than my father's. I believe that I got the best genes from both sides of my family.
I'm the eldest of three sons in my family and, while there are no daughters, I wouldn't be surprised to find out someday that I have a twin sister. It's either that, or I'll discover that I truly am half-alien (the interspatial kind, not the illegal variety). I am a mutt, however, half-Frisian (bonus points available if you know what this is), quarter-Polish, and the other quarter is still under investigation (though not for murder, I promise).
My family & my friends are very important to me. If you cross someone I hold dear, you'd best prepare for all the hounds of hell to be knocking down your door.
I'm easy going & haven't found much in life to worry about at this point. I have a stubborn streak a mile wide (give or take a couple feet), and I'm a packrat who procrastinates religiously (I'm trying to work on the latter two, but the former has gotten me to this point with few problems, so I'm inclined to keep it around for a while). Looking back from where I am right now, everything that may have seemed bad at the moment it happened has in its way led to something good down the road. I have much to be thankful for. I don't get stressed out or angry easily & I work well under pressure, probably due to all the practice my procrastination has given me. I'm confident, nearly to a fault, though I try to keep away from the cocky side of things. I know what my abilities are & what in which areas I need to improve.
I've always loved learning, and I will continue to soak up knowledge in some fashion or another for the rest of my life. What always got me in trouble in school was getting past my aversion to the requirement to show some "teacher/instructor/professor" proof of what I've learned. I knew even before the start of my senior year of high school that I'd be throwing my money down the drain if I went to college immediately upon graduation and, while I do enjoy spending money, I generally try have something to show for it when it's gone.
Instead of college, I shipped (flew?) off to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego CA for recruit training nine days after graduation. The Corps has now been a part of me for nearly 1/2 of my life.
I'm now in my 15th year as a Marine & I attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant back in Feb '05...you can just call me Gunny :). I began my career in the infantry, I'm a marksmanship instructor for rifle & pistol, and I'm currently an Arabic linguist. I've always loved puzzles & languages, so this was probably my destined career path. Of course, I’ve also been able to travel a bit...I've had the pleasure to visit such far-reaching & exotic locales as: Okinawa & the big island (Honshu) of Japan, Guam, Mexico, the UK, Morocco, Kuwait, & Iraq; and I’ve been stationed in Hawaii (Kaneohe Bay MCBH x2), Virginia (Quantico MCB), California (MCB CamPen & DLI @ Monterey), Texas (Goodfellow AFB), Georgia (Ft Gordon), and North Carolina (Camp Lejeune).
As for what the future holds...when my time in the Corps is complete, I definitely see myself as a teacher in some capacity. It seems that, along with my unquenchable thirst for knowledge, I’m also pretty good at dispensing that knowledge to others.
My favorite number is 12 & my favorite color is...well, I'll just let you guess :). Those of you who have known me for a while probably won't be surprised about the orderly look of this page; I have been affectionately nicknamed OCD-boy. Enjoy!
