A week with Rose, a week with love...

About Me

Mexicola has an interesting beginning. It wasn't the simple story of three young friends jamming in a room to form a band. The band actually had many stages before the dust settled and the three that are Mexicola (affectionately called 'Mexi' by the band and friends) stuck as a unit. And without each member this band would not be Mexicola as it would be today.Rewind to the end of 2003....Adam was sat with his friends at the time in college, days before an annual gig where many of the college's bands would play. One of his friends at the time became involved in an interesting conversation with a group of people on the next table......this group would include Mark (now guitarist of Mexi). And they were looking for a drummer for the college gig and jokingly Adam took a step forward and a seat onto their drumstool. A few days later.....in 7 hours Adam had made up drum beats to their set list. Only about 30 minutes or so of those 7 hours was spent behind a drum kit.The gig didn't go well but nonetheless it was a laugh, unsuprisingly that band split...but new bonds were formed. Mark became friends with the lanky one.The two along with one other started jamming but it involved no bassist (2 guitars and drums). Determined as Adam was to get a proper band going he put out an advert for a bassist/vocalist....he sent this firstly to a friend he had made recently who was, at the time, part of a local ska band. His name was Pete and he said immediately that he'd do it.Weirdly Mexi never became a four piece because just as Pete joined one guitarist left. So left was Adam, Mark and Pete.As soon as Adam and Mark started jamming riffs with Pete that they had worked on previously it clicked instantaneously. Then to add the cherry to the already delicious Ice Cream Sundae, vocals were added that at first Pete sung alone but with the mix of Mark's vocals too it was something special.Since then Mexi have written many a song. Played a few gigs (but not enough unfortunately) and been recorded by a living legend (and a really nice bloke too) Guy Fletcher of Dire Sraits. With a lot of new material recently written Mexi are looking to move forward in 2006.....record a demo in the next few months and hopefully get gigging once more.....hopefully to a town near you!
