Pro Career2005: Physical second-year player who started first 14 games and earned reputation as one of NFL’s top hitters at FS position…earned Pro Bowl honors for first time and became club’s first DB to earn Pro Bowl honors since Jerry Logan and Rick Volk (1971)…had 118 tackles, 71 solo, four passes defensed, one FF, one FR and one interception…tackle total ranked 2nd on club…was inactive 12/24 at Seattle and 1/1 vs. Arizona…had multiple stops in every outing and double-digit tackles in five games…had career-best 20 tackles, 12 solo, vs. San Diego 12/18.Selected in the 2nd round (44th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft by Colts.
College CareerThe heart and soul of the Hawkeyes' defense, Sanders established himself as one of the hardest hitters in the collegiate ranks … A classic case of big things coming in a small package, his style of play brings back memories to the Dallas Cowboys era of Cliff Harris and Charlie Waters and the Chicago Bears tandem of Doug Plank and Gary Fencik, two units that commanded respect from opponents for their "search-and-destroy" attitude on the football field … While his hitting style reminds many of the great safeties from the NFL's past, his speed and acceleration is favorably comparable to that of Philadelphia's Brian Dawkins, considered by many to be the fastest safety in the pro ranks … Born Demond Sanders, "Bob" is well-respected by opponents and teammates alike, serving on the school's Leadership Council as a senior … A standout running back in high school, he moved into the starting lineup late in his freshman year, providing the team with "highlight reel" performances throughout his collegiate career … Started 36 of 45 games, recording 348 tackles (235 solos) with four sacks for minus-21 yards, 15½ stops for losses of 46 yards, six quarterback pressures, four fumble recoveries for 35 yards in returns, including a touchdown, 13 forced fumbles, seven interceptions for 39 yards in returns, 30 pass deflections and a blocked kick … His 13 fumbles forced set a school career record and his 348 tackles rank fifth in Iowa history, topped only by Tom Rusk (361, 1975-78), Brad Quast (435, 1986-89), Andre Jackson (465, 1972-75) and Larry Station (492, 1982-85) … His hard-hitting style is legendary in Iowa circles … The change in the Hawkeyes defense was evident from the first time that he moved into the starting lineup as a freshman, as the attitude of that once rag-tag unit immediately improved … Head coach Kirk Ferentz commented on the team's defensive change when he said, "when we first put Bob in the starting lineup as a freshman, it was like being in a street fight and having your big brother show up. He just lifted the play of everyone else on the field."

10/03/05I placed my hand on the ball. I couldn’t tell if I really knocked it out. He didn’t have full possession of it and it bounced off of his foot. I caught it, got up, and ran. It was a big part of the game. A turnaround that allowed our offense to get back on the field and put more points on the board. Those are the types of plays that we need. That’s the style of defense we have – just stay alert and be aware for those types of plays. I think we’ve improved a lot. Guys are realizing what Coach Dungy wants out of his defense. We’ve got physical and aggressive guys … guys who can tackle, guys who can cover and do the right things. You have proper alignment, you’re using the correct technique. It’s being a student of the game and playing smart.
