Malibu Rhodes aka Matt Rhodes is one of 2007’s most hotly tipped drum and bass producers, being part of a new revolution of sound stemming from the British South coast. With his future thinking approach blended with his long appreciation of classic dance music, it is no wonder that Malibu Rhodes’ productions have been taking crowds by storm the world over.Malibu Rhodes started making tracks when he was 17 under the name Profec_Dee, using a PC and basic software. He soon resolved to broaden his horizons and became a member at Airtight Studios in Sussex. Through Airtight Matt worked with professional equipment and releasing artists such as Fatal, M Code, Flow, Raiden, Disco Assassins and Lynx, all of whom helped forge the Malibu Rhodes sound.Soon after joining Airtight, Malibu Rhodes teamed up with Tom Gibbs and the vocal talent of Bev Carter to form Studio Mafia, releasing ’Smiling faces’ with Lynx in 2004 on Touching Down Records. ’Smiling faces’ was played by various DJ’s including Calibre at a 1Extra live show in Dublin. ‘Smiling Faces’ was later remixed by Mace.Through DJing across the South Coast, Malibu Rhodes worked with local talent MC Flak and the two of them went on to play a regular show on Kunninmindz, an Internet radio station with DJ Payne. Shortly after this Malibu Rhodes went on to release a remix of ‘1000 Miles’ for Industry Recordings.The pseudonym Malibu Rhodes was conceived in 2006 when Matt started to work more closely with his mentor Lynx. Their first track ‘Mariachi’ instantly got the attention of the music industry and was played on Radio 1, 1xtra and Soul:ution Radio.Now ‘Mariachi’ is set to be released on Creative Source in the Spring, followed shortly after by a further release by Lynx and Malibu Rhodes ‘ Perdition’ coming out on Horizon.
