About Me

The Sylvia Ferreira Dance Company was formed in 2005 and are based in London. They will be touring Europe with their new work. The company has collaborated with award winning musicians such as Daniel Potter and currently John Chambers.
The practise within the company attempts to embody the images and atmospheres of psychological themes, such as the subconscious in relation to self identity and the unconscious psyche within dream states. The choreographic material is constructed through using improvisation to mould the dancers’ and choreographer’s perception of the issues and themes being explored. The works draw on striking visual images through primal and theatrical movement.
The latest work ‘Marks that Behold’ has enticed and embodied the dark and light images of the Catholicism. The work explores the dancers’ and choreographer’s interpretation of those images, such as Stigmata, Exorcism, Healing, Miracles, Crucifixion, etc. The piece does not attempt to make a statement about the religion that is what the audience is there for.
