I am an evolution. Through change, adaptation, maturation, mutation…I have ended up here. I am daughter, sister, partner, cousin, creator, scientist, writer, speaker, public servant, artist, defender, captain, golfer, pharmacist, filmmaker, friend. My time is spent trying to fulfill these roles as best I can. After pursuing 'practical' career in science…I have recently embarked on what I consider (or what I hope to be) my ‘alternative career’: I am a horror/thriller/suspense writer and filmmaker. I attempt to better public health by day and delve into the gruesome, terrifying and repellent recesses of my brain as a screenwriter by night. My first screenplay, a short film entitled ‘Shortcut’, sits on a shelf next to my gargoyle of inspiration (his name is Thor and his brow is furrowed like mine). It is a simple tale of blinding rivalry and what can happen if one focuses too intensely on victory. I am amidst a handful more – with elements of early American history, autobiography, vengeance, psychological disturbance, empowerment, rural culture, salvation – all with a somewhat warped slant and all in various stages of development. With my film projects, I practice the art of the no-budget super short. Armed with the knowledge acquired during an AFI filmmaking workshop, I just finished up work on my first super short film that I co-wrote/directed/edited/produced and my second short completed in one weekend for a local 72-hour film festival. Currently, I have committed my time, energy, and soul to writing my first novel (screenplay to follow) that I plan to finish this year. And, I have begun pre-production for a music video for my friend and blues musician Carly and am collaborating with her and her mother/manager on various other music-related projects. All of these efforts – writing, film-making, creating - to one end…to tell a story…one that moves you, inspires you, and with any luck, will terrify you...
