dancing, hanging out, new adventures, reading, movies, crafting and creative projects, soccer, playing sports,meeting new folks, drinking, talking to my mom and sister because they are some bad ass women on this note talking with other bad ass mujeres en mi vida you know who you are.
the folks who I am supposed to meet at one point or another in my lifetime. And when the time comes, I'm sure I'll be just as excited!
ska, rock en espanol, oldies but goodies,(old) country, jazz, classical, punk, reggea, cumbias, merengue, salsa, indie, rock, romanticas, nortenas, hip-hop, soul n r&b, okay n reggeaton; music that will get me groovin to beats, lyrics, and ritmo. Really, i'll listen to just about anything, if it grabs my ear then i'm into it...oh yeah and can't forget las mananitas...a classic ;)
if it makes me laugh my ass off to the point of tears, i'm there, or if it just brings me to tears and skips parody and sarcasm I'll stick around. "based on a true story" movies are also pleasing, however a lot is romanticized in the process of deliverance. old movies are cool too, with less violence, well some. action movies are cool too, but sometimes overly predictable, indie movies are cool too. two thumbs up for documentaries of (my) interest that shed some light on a variety of issues, movements, people and communities and deliver powerful messages and call for action on the basis of sharing and disseminating information to a broader audience. Okay now my favorite, Home Videos, those are the best. there's never enough time to watch them all but they are full of memories and family history and the film documentation goes back to the very first b-day party (or special event) that was video taped, when someone in the family of uncles,aunts, and cousins, bought a camera and shared the vids with the rest of the fam. home vids that show when the younger generations were kids,when the parents were young-adults, b-day parties, newly weds, quinceaneras, bautizos, primera comuniones, confirmations, new borns, visits to mexico or other vacations, or other special occassions. yeah, those videos are the best.....seeing my primito looking so cute like a chunky monkey and missing a large portion of his teeth is hella funny cause there is a whole other story behind that image...
right now I'm reading a book on maria sabina-a mazatec indigenous woman from the montanas of huautla, oaxaca. she was a shaman woman who used language as medicine. In particular, she used the language of the children--mushrooms. In short, she healed with the use of mushrooms. She was (however, her spirit still lives on) a strong, valient, humble, altruistic, honest, amazing, and powerful wise woman.
the two primary women in my life, mom and sis. the strong women who keep on amazing me with their restless persistance to create and make social, communal, individual, and political change possible. everyday survivors...somos fuertes y juntos hasta mas...
