Born and raised in Newark, NJ... Music was always a part of my life. I can remember being in elementary school, buying my first cassette tapes and playing them in my walkman until they popped and I had to go buy another. That was back when Jay-z released “Reasonable Doubtâ€, Nas had “It was Writtenâ€, and of course Biggie had “Ready to Die†and “Life After Deathâ€. It was back then, when I looked up to the artists portrayed on the screen, as I watched “Yo MTV Raps†and “The Boxâ€, and thought of them as trendsetters.
Getting older, I became a DJ, providing entertainment for small events here and there, and my passion for music began to grow as I became subjected to different styles of music, (after all, I had to move the crowd) but I felt like it just wasn’t enough. So, I started promoting. First, there was Hitt Squad, then I branched off with a few friends to create My Mans And Em Ent… But the hunger within kept growing. Meanwhile, there was an increasing change in the music industry. More and more I began to notice artists chasing money instead of making music, and although I feel artist deserve to make ends for their work, the creative aspect began to deteriorate as more and more artists started to follow suit instead of attempt to innovate the craft.
In 2003, I moved from Newark, NJ (HoodaVille) to Philadelphia, Pa, to attend school, but during my years at Temple University, I not only increased by knowledge of an Accounting curriculum, but my awareness of other ways of living, hence a change in perception of everything around me…
Then came S.M.C…. Streets Money Control…. I’ve always been one to jump in a freestyle cipher from time to time, but it wasn’t until August 2006 that a battle before a small crowd made me realize my words had the power to get the attention of an audience, NO MATTER WHAT THEY WERE DOING PRIOR TO THE POINT I STARTED TO RAP… So, with that I went to the studio and recorded my first track, “War at Nightâ€â€¦ The reaction from everyone that heard the song was shocking to even me, because everyone seemed to like it, so I decided to continue to make music… Soon after, I began to get support from people all over, from friends and family to people that had no reason in the world to say they liked what I had to say… And that’s when the grind begun… I started my music page, and started to do what I know best… Promote myself…
I’m not one for gimmicks, and it would seem that more and more individuals believe they have to portray some sort of act to get attention, support or record sales… if they feel it works for them, I say “Why Not?†But in the meantime, I’ll be making music that I feel is creative as well as entertaining… Yeah, it’s good to have large sums of money coming in from shows, but I don’t think it’s cool when people buy similar material from various artists that all sounds the same because it’s the CURRENT TREND… See, “There’s a lot of situations in the Streets, Money Control†however, I feel like mankind makes money, and should never be controlled by currency.
So, I do this for the people that love good music it… For the women, whether they feel they are or are not, would rather not be called a “bitch†every couple of bars, for the dudes, whether they’re on the block or behind a desk grinding, for the children who look up to artists… every listener. This is music… this is a movement… and regardless of the mood, experiences, or ideas behind the music, no gimmicks involved, it’s all REAL RAP….
