About Me

Afterlife - Live at the Intake 07
Sherwood itself has been formed for over 8 years now, a project started by Singer/Guitarist Ryan Sharpe, Guitarist Rob Carr, Bassist Matt Campbell and Drummer Dave Carr.
In the spring of 2001 Ryan, Rob and Dave wanted to take on a serious project after their previous band, C60K which performed more pop rock with female vocals. Matt Campbell was asked to join the project on bass, Ryan took on the job of lead vocals and Sherwood was agreed as the band name then the band started working on new material. Having been friends for a number of years, the goal was also the same, to write and perform simple yet skilled songs with a laid back attitude however with a lot of humour which shows on stage that provides energetic performances. The next couple of years proved successful for the band with the new material and cover songs in their performances proving popular, taking the new set to various places in Mansfield and Nottingham.
At the end of April 2002 Sherwood did a number of performance in Xanten, Germany. This proved a good learning curve and experience, headlining one venue and performing at a number of others with European and British bands.
In 2003 Sherwood blitzed their home county and continued with producing songs. A quieter year than 2002 for the band, although more time was spent behind the scenes which included helping and supporting young bands at the local Christian run youth group, Venue 3:16.
Traditionally a four peice band, Sherwood also performed as a 5 peice during 2004. After the band took an 8 month break, Chris Tideswell joined on guitar in the spring and the band went on to have a number of successful performances.
Sherwood returned back to a four peice at the beginning of 2005 and spent the first half of the year writing and recording new material to take to the stage. 2005 also included Sherwood's first trip to London for two performance in Kensington. Sherwood also showcased a new vocalist called Justin Morgan during the autumn of 2005 from an Iron Maiden tribute band 'Powerslave'. The plan, as was in 2004, was to take to the stage as a 5 piece again, which showed presence. Unfortunatly due to personal reasons Justin had to leave both bands, so Sherwood finished the year and their remaining performances in traditional style.
A new chapter began at the beginning of 2006. Rob Carr left the band for personal reasons and Chris Tideswell rejoined on 2nd guitar and the band wrote 8 new songs during that summer. The first 2 new songs 'Afterlife' and 'This is my Life' moved away from the more metal twin guitar orientated style of 'Say Goodbye' and 'The Traveller' and took a more simpler hard rock feel. This was followed by 'Saturday Night' and 'Play' which were longer and more epic than previous Sherwood songs, followed by the gutsy 'Damn You' which was the first song to some humerous references.
From November 2006 to April 2008 Sherwood headlined a large number of gigs in the Midlands and Yorkshire as well as the Sinnister Sounds Xmas gig and supporting UK metallers Smokescreen, performing the new material as well a selection of some old classics.
After some time out Sherwood will be getting back into the studio and hopefully take to the road again later in the 2009.
Now after 8 years, the band have developed their song writing skills and repertoire and have now found the narrow road in which Sherwood fits musically – a clash of classic rock meets New wave of British heavy metal. It’s this mix and the uniqueness of character that makes Sherwood what it is today.
