REFINERY

About Me

Combining the talents of two veteran electronic musicians (Mutt, a DJ since 1994 and electonic music enthusiast since 1984 [thanks to the eternal one for Kraftwerk!], and Tyler, a classically trained instrumentalist since early childhood), the Refinery produces a unique style of mixed live music. While we may technically be laptop DJs, we are playing our own tracks through our music production software. We just feel that doing a live PA with individual tracks is just plain boring. We want the listening experience to resemble that of what you might expect from someone like Stacey Pullen. Remember, these are tracks that no one else has and you might not ever hear some of them again. Our influences range from classic Chicago house to the hard driving minimal sound of Detroit techno.
The Refinery subscribes to the following music production and performance theories:
1. Addition by Subtraction: The idea that melodies can be created with spacing and emptiness.
2. Emotional Conveyance: The idea that both the phrasing within a song and the song itself can contain emotional triggering properties that can be manipulated and controlled.
3.Musical Absoluteness: The idea that a mathematician creates math just as a musician creates music; both professions share a nature of exploration and discovery.
4. Mind Intrusion: The idea that if you close your eyes and let yourself go, you might feel that you went somewhere and came back. Also, you might be in danger of "getting it!"Our music is available at such fine institutions as iTunes, Track it down, Dance Records, and Beatport. Thank you for your support!

We have four songs available: "Organ Donor," "Console," "Bomp," and "Phase Two." "Organ Donor" is listed three times: two are the same and the other is "Console." Sorry for the confusion and thank you SO MUCH for purchasing our music!
