About Me

Born within the sound of Bow Bells in London, a Cockney by tradition, Pauline's background was also richly enhanced by Northern blood and Irish musical ancestry. She started performing accapello in folk clubs around the London area while only sixteen years old.Pauline studied at the Arts Educational School of Dance and Music, while making her first stage appearances in various Pantomimes and Summer Seasons, playing alongside such stars as Dickie Valantine and Bill Maynard. In the early 1970's, Pauline performed live on Beirut Radio, and developed her guitar skills whilst travelling around the Middle East. A successful residency followed at the Chimney Corner Club in Gibraltar.Returning to the United Kingdom, Pauline then became resident singer/guitarist at the famous Serpentine Restaurant in Hyde Park, London. This was followed by another five-star residency at the highly presigious restaurant, Blunks, in Waltham Abbey, Essex.Pauline has a number of Film and TV appearances to her credit, including The Beiderbeck Affair, with James Bolam, as well as various appearances in British Comedy movies.Around this time, Pauline also performed with Peter Sarsted (Where Do You Go To My Lovely?) in London. Such great lyrics are always worth a reference....
I remember the back streets of Naples
Two children begging in rags
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly-born tags, and they try
So look into my face Marie-Claire
And remember just who you are
Then go and forget me forever
'Cause I know you still bear the scar, deep inside, yes you do
'Cause I know where you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
I can see all the thoughts that surround you
'Cause I can see inside your head
- Peter Sarsted -
Pauline had her own composition For All Time recorded and released as an EP by Sally Oldfield (Sister of Mike Oldfield of Tubular Bells fame) with Bronze records. The song was subsequently published on Sally Oldfield's worldwide album release, Night Riding....
Call me, and I'll be there
Ask of me, and I will share
Everything, if I would dare be honest
For All Time
I learned school book reality
It made a prison cell for me
You gave me back my liberty to choose
For All Time, for All Time....
CHORUS -
Did you ever watch a candle flame burn out
Without doubt, life's the same
And of all the things I know I will forget
I'll remember your name
With your face in my memory
Your words will come to me, tomorrow.... tomorrow
With your face in my memory
Your words will come to me
Lyrics - Pauline King
After a period spent working with the band Highway Shoes, during which time singing one of her own compositions on TV at the Peterborough Music Festival, Pauline moved to East Yorkshire, where she continued to deliver her unique brand of music at folk clubs, pubs and various restaurants.Pauline was then booked for a Summer Season on the mystical island of Jersey, entertaining with voice and guitar. This was followed by a Christmas Tour there, playing various hotels and restaurants. After this, Pauline found herself returning to the Middle East, this time as resident entertainer at the exclusive Gulf Hotel in Oman.During the 1990's, Pauline entered into a creative lyrical collaboration with Robin Keen, which produced such highly original songs as Boulvard of Broken Dreams and Highway Home.
Won't someone show me the Highway home
It's been so long, all my friends are gone
Chasing that winning hand's just left me blue
'Cause I wake-up every morning just longing for you
CHORUS -
Lady Luck is knocking on someone else's door
Man, I'd do anything I can to even up the score
That Desert Star, that shines so high
Leaves a short way to tumble and a long, long way to fly
Won't someone show me the Highway home
Lyrics - Robin Keen & Pauline King
On Boulevard of Broken Dreams they worked with the talented musical director and musician Bernie S, whose professional credits include touring with such chart-topping names as Gary Barlow, Sarah Brightman, and Annie Lennox of Eurythmics fame.
The stars shine on the sidewalk
In the early morning sun
The tears have dried
Of those that tried to make it
And when again night falls again
The neons light the smiles of those
Who trade their dreams
What might have been
And fake it....
CHORUS -
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Nothing is the way that it seems
While the stars cruise by in their big black cars
The losers count the cost in the bars
It's make or break, make no mistake
This town lives for money 'n' fame
So if you're down 'n'out
And you want to get out
Hustlin' is the name of the game
Lyrics - Robin Keen & Pauline King
In more recent years, Pauline's musical career was, by choice, overridden by her love for her mother to whom she devoted many, many hours of care through a long illness, that only sadly ended recently with her passing.Pauline is now now back recording again. Her new batch of songs includes It's Only Love That You Can Keep, which was inspired by Pauline's Mother, Marie, a gifted artist - A fine example, a portrait of Pauline as a child - displayed below.
