Most music fans today don't realize how important they are to the artists they're listening to or buying merchandise/albums from. In fact most people believe that a good musician will get recognized for being a good musician.
The reality of things couldn't be farther from the truth. It is you as a listener who holds the key to any bands success. Did you buy any albums this year? What I'm trying to get at is you support these bands, and most times they are bands that have been served to you on a silver platter (nickelback anyone?).
If you want to hear good music go find a local band YOU LIKE, and support them by going to their shows, buying their merchandise, and telling others about them. If you know anything about me you know that I love Traverser, but that doesn't mean I think that everyone should listen to them. No one is wrong when it comes to their preference, and if you really care about a certain style then support a band that gives you what you want to hear. Big-Business record labels don't take chances with bands that might/might not make them money, but are willing to sign bands that can prove they have a crowd that likes their stuff. I can't tell you that everything underground is good because a lot of it does suck, but for example I stumbled across Traverser and couldn't have been more stimulated.
Point is: if you do give half a shit about the kind of crap that those radio assholes are providing you then think about helping some artists that want to give you "your kind of shit".
